2 Chainz & Wiz Khalifa's "We Own It" has been my pump up jam of the summer, only to recently be supplanted by Yeezus (um, all of it). And so I had a feeling right off the bat that I would vibe with the fresh twist Mike Posner put on the Fast 6 theme song with help from rappers T. Mills and Sammy Adams, plus acoustic guitarist and singer Niykee Heaton.
That's exactly what happened from the start as Heaton and Posner collab for the hook's vocals and a high-energy acoustic tone that's carried out more throughout. Posner's verse was my favorite, with Sammy's and Mills' following in that order. The latter two have more traditional rap verses than Posner's flowing melodic singing/rapping fusion. The video itself keeps you engaged as well, providing a first-person perspective of all the artists in the studio, with a full band, as the camera goes from room to room to capture each vocalist. Great stuff all around, and I'll surely be jamming to this summertime remix of "We Own It" these next couple months.
Pages, a Mike Posner project, is coming this Fall. Coinciding with his newly added opening act for Justin Bieber's nationwide tour.
