UPDATE: "Full uncensored" version. Not sure what else is different except a touch more skin from Kim, but, um, enjoy?!
As promised, the new "Bound 2" video! KimYe take to the Grand Canyon for this Nick Knight-directed visual on the Yeezus fan favorite. As premiered on Ellen.
I'm not that high on the video though, in fact. The green screen effect could have been more effective if it was juxtaposed with something completely different. Furthermore, and I didn't know there was such a thing, but it felt like there was too much of Kim. After the video started, I was hoping for more variety of scenes and I think that would be my solution to enhance the concept. Overall, my favorite part was the closing Charlie Wilson chorus. Per usual with 'Ye, the reaction this morning has been polarizing; chime in with your thoughts as well @gowherehiphop.
PLUS, here's Kanye's interview with Ellen. He had romantic things about to say on his fiance Kim:
“She’s a person that, when I was at my lowest moments, I could get on the phone with her and she would make me feel like I was here for a reason and I had something to say… It’s incredible to have a woman like that that you know is not using you for money.”
And more on DONDA collaboration (less about "I" now):
“God gave me everything that I wanted, and I wanna take a piece of that joy that I’m feeling and give it back to the people who have helped make that happen for me.”
Good, but possibly bad news, for Kanye fans! The tour is back on track after last week's auto accident derailed it with postponements. In a statement by Def Jam today, some of the cities have new, rescheduled dates; however, some are flat out canceled. Hopefully those cities will get something down the line.
Don't fret, local readers. The Chicago double dip are two of the newly rescheduled dates: December 17 & 18. Here's the full details:
THE YEEZUS TOUR WILL RESUME ITS SCHEDULED ROUTING ON SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 16TH AT THE WELLS FARGO CENTER IN PHILADELPHIA, PA.
THE CHICAGO, TORONTO, AND DETROIT DATES HAVE BEEN RESCHEDULED (SEE RESCHEDULED DATES BELOW).
DUE TO ROUTING LOGISTICS, THE VANCOUVER, DENVER, COLUMBUS, MONTREAL, MINNEAPOLIS AND ST. LOUIS SHOWS HAVE BEEN CANCELLED.
Last night, the Yeezus Tour kicked off in Seattle and everyone not in the pacific northwest has Twitter and Instagram to thank for the first glimpse into what to expect. I think the only thing I expected was something I haven't seen before... and sure enough, Kanye brings out Jesus.
I haven't seen any video of it, but it was certainly a topic on Twitter and one that Ye's tour DJ, Mano addressed.
Furthermore, we can thank Virgil Abloh and Don C for the peeks at the beginning of the Yeezus Tour. Both were active on Instagram with the former posting videos, and the latter some amazing pics that I curated below. Simply put, it looks amazing. The beams of light, the set in general (DONDA designed), and the various ways Kanye can interact with the set and dancers from just what we see below yields a lot of possibilities.
Fashion wise, you'll notice that 'Ye is rockin the Red Octobers and also a face mask in some of the photos. Don C dropped Margiela as one of his hashtags too. So, any first thoughts? I'm even more amped to experience this for myself in Chicago.
New Yorkers, you're in for a treat come November. Yeezus is bringing A Tribe Called Quest on tour. Only fitting, right?
Here are the dates to expect them. Hopefully more surprise guest to be announced soon ('Ye's gotta have someone in store for Chi-Town, right? *shrugs* No complaints if not honestly.
Tuesday, November 19 – Kendrick Lamar – Barclay’s Center – Brooklyn, NY Wednesday, November 20 – A Tribe Called Quest – Barclay’s Center – Brooklyn, NY Saturday, November 23 – Kendrick Lamar – Madison Square Garden – New York, NY Sunday, November 24 – A Tribe Called Quest – Madison Square Garden – New York, NY
Out in the U.K. right now, Kanye West stopped by Jools Holland and was accompanied by Charlie Wilson for another live performance of "Bound 2" (following up on last week's on Fallon) and this was another great one of one of everyone's favorite tracks off Yeezus. Per usual with 'Ye, you feel him feel the music. "Bound 2" was also enhanced by Charlie Wilson's free flowing singing and how the camera captured 'Ye up close and Charlie in the background. You'll also notice in the background Mike Dean and Chi-Town's own Mano, which really worked visually as well. Watch above ICYMI!
Chicago, Yeezus will have a second coming... of sorts. 'Ye added a second date for his hometown "due to overwhelming demand", says AEG Live, for Saturday November 9th (on top of Thursday, the 7th) and tickets go on sale later this morning at 10am. Get up I get down!
"Brandy‘s little sister lame and you know it now."
- Kanye West
Kanye West made his first appearance on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon tonight, a surprise one at that, as he joins The Roots and is accompanied by Charlie Wilson for a performance of the Yeezus fan favorite "Bound 2".
And wow, did this come to life live, huh? Not only was 'Ye flanked by the booming vocals of Charlie Wilson, but also a children chorus for help on the sample. The live version of "Bound 2" was filled with soul from all of the above (The Roots and Mano included) and that's fitting for the many who call the album's concluding track Yeezus' most soulful, "throwback Kanye" jam.
I thoroughly enjoyed this performance and feel like it's a great glimpse of what's to come on the Yeezus tour (tickets on sale Friday!)
SNL comedian Jay Pharaoh parodies Kanye West in "I Am A DOG" an indirect reference to Ye's "Black Skinhead" music video as Pharaoh puts his impersonation abilities to use as he rhymes over the "I Am A God" instrumental off the Yeezus album. Pharaoh is a great impersonator, lets hope there's more gems like these in his downtime before the SNL cast begins recording new shows for their upcoming season.
Treated Crew's Na$im Williams releases "Bound 2.5" in anticipation of his upcoming release, The Symbiote. "Bound 2.5" is Na$im's remix to Kanye West's "Bound 2" off the recent Yeezus album. As for Na$im Williams, he is currently developing The Symbiote, an EP that will be composed of his latest work and newest collaborations. The Symbiote is slated to release in late September/Early October, until then you are able to attend Na$im's listening party for The Symbiote in September. "Bound 2.5" is just a taste of what Na$im Williams, Treated Crew's youngest in charge brings to the table.
