The GTW (pictured above) is one of the most versatile Chicago artists on the come-up. He raps, sings, blends mixes (as seen earlier today), and produces. Here's his newest "rework" of Tink's "When I'm Lit". And when it begins with iconic clips from Kenan & Kel, it's already a *Tibs Fav.. The good grooves continue after that amazing start, which GTW describes as "traditional ethnic tribal sounds and 90s So So Def Atlanta bass". Dopeness!
Can't say today's afternoon in hip hop is complete without getting you this new record from my guys, The 2 of Diamonds. It's one off their upcoming project, J4F2, and a possible featured track on this week's edition of my #WeekInRaps. Featuring Tink on the hook, here's "Fluid."
"Average" is a new collab above that simply doesn't live up to its name. And that's because it is in fact, quite above average. 2008ighties emcee Legit spearheads a lyrical collab featuring three artists new on my radar: Tink, Blak Dubb, & Average Bo. All parties do their thing as the lyrics don't drop off from one rapper to the next - as they each rock a subdued, piano-laced production. The latter sets a soothing tone that's perfect for your Sunday morning. But once again, I can't underscore the bars on this one. My favorite stretch: probably the effect of dropping the beat so Legit could go a capella on verse 2. Well-executed. I had to rewind that one. And really, the track as a whole. Start your Sunday off with a *Tibs Fav.™ above!
