Well things just aren’t looking up for Aaliyah’s upcoming posthumous album. Last week Drake and Aaliyah’s label Blackground stated that Missy Elliott and Timbaland would in fact contribute to the upcoming album. As of today that is now false according to a statement released by Missy Elliot’s Manager.
"Although Missy and Timbaland always strive to keep the memory of their close friend alive, we have not been contacted about the project nor are there any plans at this time to participate," Mona Scott-Young, longtime manager for Missy Elliott, says. "We've seen the reports surfacing that they have been confirmed to participate but that is not the case. Both Missy and Timbaland are very sensitive to the loss still being felt by the family so we wanted to clear up any misinformation being circulated."
Clearly there is a lot of confusion and drama going on with this upcoming release. One being the fact Aaliyah’s brother said no one from his family supports this album. With Missy and Tim out the picture, I’m starting to wonder what is the purpose of releasing the album without two people who really helped Aaliyah’s career. Hopefully a lot of things get cleared up between everyone, because this album seems like a great idea if executed right.
With the recent release of “Enough Said”, Aaliyah’s label Blackground reached out to Biz confirming Drake and Noah ‘40’ Shebib as the executive producers for the upcoming album. The untitled album will feature 16 unreleased songs and fragments from the late singer's archive. Blackground plans to release the ablum by the end of this year.
This album should most certainly be hot. Drake and 40 almost never fail to deliver great material. Plus Timbaland and Missy Elliott are expected to contribute to the album as well.
Justin Timberlake became a trending topic today after reports surfaced that he is working on a new album. Said reports came about because producer Jim Beanz described hearing some new, "crazy" tracks that JT is working on. Beanz' exact words can be read here. Just now, however, Timberlake's publicist says to Entertainment Weekly that there are currently no plans for a new album and that the only music Justin is working on is for tracks on the upcoming album with frequent collaborator seen above, Timbaland, Shock Value 3. So JT fans, I understand the tease of today's news, but looking at things positively, it seems like there are some SV3 features on the way. Thoughts on JT and his long absence from music?!
First off, I don't want to mislead you with the photo above. There's just not a lot of quality photos of just Timbo and Aaliyah so I just settled on one with Eminem & Missy Elliott as well. Hah, crazy throwback.
After yesterday's track that leaked with Aaliyah and Drake, diehard Aaliyah fans became outraged because A. they were not impressed with the track and B. felt that Timbaland and Missy Elliott should be the ones behind any posthumous Aaliyah tracks. Well, according to Miss Info's sources, Timbaland is said to be producing 2 of the tracks on an upcoming Aaliyah album; Drake is only said to be featured on "Enough Said", and that Timbo & Missy Elliott have completed their upcoming joint album. What do you all think of this news?
