Rap legend Rakim to be honored at this weekend's BET Hip Hop Awards
Legendary New York MC, and one of the forefront pioneer's of hip-hop culture Rakim, will be awarded with the esteemed I am Hip-Hop Icon Award this Saturday (September 29th), at the anual BET Hip Hop Awards in Atlanta, Georgia.
The Long Island Native whose witty rhyme patterns, and powerful sonorous voice has placed him in the annnals of hip-hop greatness will be honored for his contributions to the culture, as well as the rap music industry as a whole. Rakim burst onto the scene with his 1986 hit single Eric B is President, which single handedly trascended the rap game. His work as one half of the iconic rap duo Eric B and Rakim has produced some of hip-hop's most celebrated works such as, Don't Sweat the Technique, Follow the Leader, and who could forget the forever legendary Paid in Full.
Rakim's level of lyricism and diversified rhyme patterns has influenced many hip-hop artist atop of the rap game today, from Jay-z to Nas, all have incorperated a small piece of Rakim into their music. Most artist that hail from the era in which your ability to creavitly intertwine words and rhyme schemes into a cohesive piece of art, will always point to Rakim as a pivotal figure in their sucess, and understanding of hip-hop.
