In preparation of his upcoming project Zen Garden set to be released in the late spring., Chicago native Austin White delivers this German ice cream inspired number "Haagen-Dazs" to satisfy our sweet tooths while the album is being crafted. White, best known for his eclectic production style with placements on many of Chicago's buzzing artists, doesn't come up short with this crisp manipulation of the classic "Toms Diner" by Suzanne Vega.
I am very pleased & excited to introduce you to Young General’s Hip-Hop For Adults, Vol. 2. The new mixtape kicks off with “I’m A Beast,” a track mixing Young G’s lyrical dexterity with the scratching and table riffing of DJ My Boy Elroy. I’ve seen this song performed live with a band on a few occasions, and while it is indeed a crowd-pleaser, a more apt label is “crowd-winner” – it’s a song that can be performed to an unknown audience to win their attention.
The song works the same way in this series, inviting listeners into Young General’s follow-up to 2011’s Vol. 1. The lush production from G’s regular collaborator Letter L gives the track an introductory feel before it settles into its booming refrain. Feels like an action film’s opening credits. Perhaps that’s why G was inspired to rip off a series of superhero mentions in the song’s second verse.
