The abandoned church set for S-Preme's "I Don't Give A Fuck" music video
Last weekend, we braved the start of the freezing cold here in the Chicagoland area to check out the last day of filming for S-Preme's upcoming music video for "I Don't Give A Fuck", which will feature Yasmine of the hit trio Krewella.
The setting was this eerie abandoned church that seemed straight out of an armageddon movie. There was everything from broken glass windows, walls that are straight up destroyed, and graffiti that laced the brick walls and concrete columns.
Conceptually, I'll let the final product really tell the story, but you can get a glimpse of some of the scenes and overall vibe of the video with the photos above. It's an incredible vision by S-Preme and director Rick Wayne that I can't wait to see unfold for myself.
And this church isn't the only setting for the video — S-Preme, Rick Wayne, and crew were filming not too long ago in the dunes outside Chicago and out in L.A. with Yasmine. A simple scroll-thru of S-Preme's instagram @SPreme will give you that glimpse with some more amazing behind-the-scenes photos.
Keep in tune with us with more on the way from S-Preme, producer Mr. Music, and visuals from Rick Wayne that are all leading up to the release of 'Preme's upcoming album, Goodbye Tomorrow: A Journey Through the Mind of a Non-Believer.
And hey, you might even see us in the video! Sgt. Tibs, S-Preme, & Maks G #MaskedMen
S-Preme is always one of my go-to answers whenever anyone asks the question, what Chicago rapper deserves more shine? (or what emcee from Chicago are you listening to? or any question to that liking.) It's been a long hiatus for new music from S-Preme, but today, his 28th birthday, marks his return.
The aptly titled "28" is produced by Mr. Music and the first preview of a new album on the way called Goodbye Tomorrow: A Journey Through The Mind of a Non-Believer that S-Preme will be releasing this fall (executive produced by Mr. Music). Simply put, this is a sign of the next level sound both artists have been striving toward since we first heard their music since, well, we practically first began the site about five years ago. A sound that's truly theirs and truly different than what's out.
"28, that's when Basquiat died..." is how 'Preme begins it after a menacing production from Music sets the tone. S-Preme mixes a flurry of double meanings and clever references (including one of my favorite D. Rose ones of all) with analytical rhymes of his place in the game and as a person at age 28. Also keep a close ear to the subtleties in the production by Mr. Music as he samples some familiar iconic ad-libs, opera singing, and Kanye's "Runaway" (all being on point) on top of the amazing breakdown at the end.
And finally, get this: S-Preme and Mr. Music made this song today. Plus, I feel like it's as dope as an appetizer as can be of what else is to come on Goodbye Tomorrow. Maks G and I have heard some previews at their studio and can't wait for you guys to hear it as well. While we wait, "28" will definitely hold down a spot in the rotation. I feel like I could go more about this song, but at last, I think it's time you just press play and see if you'll add it to your rotation too.
Check out the fresh slideshow above illustrating the fusion of artist, brand, and media as we have opened our office doors for a variety of national and local Chicago artists, and gifted them free hats and gear from one of our sponsors — New Era!
Plus! I'm also bringing back a hilarious video we did with GLC when we gifted him some Chicago New Era lids and a Dallas Mavericks one that he rocked in the "Mack On, Mack Strong" video, directed by our own Terrence Jones. Ism!
