Do the homies j.pak and pak.one know that I would eat Choco Tacos everyday during the summer of '06? Well, now they do (and so do you) and it was the first memory that came to mind when I saw the name and logo on the cover of this fresh release from the Mint Lab Astronauts today. Coyote encapsulates M.L.A.'s sound with a sick production and the contrast between pak.one and j.pak's delivery on this one is more separated than usual — providing a fresh feel to longtime fans and the same for the new listener. Give this one a listen/download above.
M.L.A. celebrated the 04.20 holiday this past weekend with the release of a 5-track EP above, Chronicles Of The Astronauts. You can imagine the subject matter, just be sure to also take note of the duo's versatile flows, delivery and alliteration, and great choices of familiar samples of movies/TV shows (I haven't heard any producer incorporate these quite like pak.one)
NOTE: Chronicles Of The Astronauts is a compilation of older releases for the 4.20 5-track package, as j.pak states.
TONIGHT - the first of three GWHH-sponsored events this weekend is happening in Chicago. It's DOPE Christmas - the second show in E-Train's return home for the holidays. He'll be headlining the bill, with Young General hosting all night. Be sure to get there early after 8 because rising hip hop acts like M.L.A., The Boy lllinois, and Rich Jones will be on stage and on time. And these are all cats I'd personally suggest for your playlist - and everyone above is definitely going to bring a dope live show. It takes place at Debonair - a great and intimate venue for high-energy fun. Hope to see you there!
Earlier this fall, we sponsored, alongside Marcus Shadden, Social Con Clothing, and Conscious Couture, a fresh all-style dance competition entitled 'The Streets Are My Canvas'!
The concept was simple: the city's hottest young breakers and freestyle dancers were invited to battle, 1-on-1, until there was one winner left standing in tournament-style fashion.
Naturally, we saw a variety of styles that I can sit here and list, or what's better for you, to just see in the excellent new recap video above. I was floored by some of the moves, twists, bends, and overall swagger and flamboyance that was on display.
Dancing is truly an art form - and The Streets Are My Canvas was a reminder of that. The balance of physical and mental dexterity with the open platform to be creative is an avenue I wish I could tap into (at least in other ways besides how Carlton does).
Get a glimpse of these creative styles and personalities by pressing play above (plus performances by M.L.A. and host/emcee Aerias) and keep in tune with us, as we hope to get involved in more fun events like The Streets Are My Canvas!
Chicago, looking to go out for Black Wednesday tonight? We have another GWHH Event going on this week that is the place to be - this one being at 8Fifty8 where Marcus Shadden will be providing the tunes all night and performances by M.L.A., Sanction Language, and Retrospect, I can say from first hand experience, will be dope. Get accustomed to new music, take advantage of giveaways from Nooka & Social Con Clothing, and all this - a great night tonight - for FREE!
Another dope cut from the Mint Lab Astronauts. Their flows keep getting tighter and the creative twist in the production towards the end was brilliant. Easy *Tibs Fav.
