What an awesome weekend Lollapalooza was this year. Chicago was filled with entertainment from morning to night. This year, Govia and I got to cover the festival and the after parties. Not only did we listen to your favorite songs from your favorite artists, but we got to talk to a few of them. Check out this Lollapalooza recap that was put together for all of you who couldn't attend or just want to relive the experience. The interviews include artists who took over the Perry Stage such as Bassnectar, Paper Diamond, Zedd, DJ Zebo, and Zeds Dead who talk about what it takes to become an artist and the use of all the production these days. Also, Black Sabbath's keyboardist Adam Wakeman talks to us about the few shows this year with Ozzy Osbourne. This recap also includes many more performances at Lollapalooza such as The Weeknd, Frank Ocean, Childish Gambino, Red Hot Chili Peppers and more from after parties at the Hard Rock Hotel. Enjoy!
What a great way to launch Lollapalooza weekend by interviewing Miguel. I was so excited watching him perform at the Hard Rock Hotelfor the Soul Sounds Pre-Lolla Kickoff Party. Not only did we get to watch him perform live ("All I Want Is You" & "Quickie" seen above), we got to talk to him on the red carpet. Watch and get the inside scoop on his new album and why he is releasing two EPs of songs from the album before releasing Kaleidoscope Dream in full on October 2. You’d be surprised by his answer. He also tells us what is the one food he can't live without. Enjoy!
To push the release of Kaleidoscope Dream: The Water Preview EP on iTunes today, we have the timely release of the "Adorn" video from Miguel above. Water is a little bit of a theme in these visuals, but this one is not as eye-catching as the first video for "Adorn", which Miguel dropped back in February if you recall. Whatever the case, I've been bumpin' Kaleidoscope Dream: The Water Preview EP very steadily in my rotation since the stream came out a few days ago. "Dont Look Back" is all caps *TIBS FAV. status. So be sure to check out the first of a couple EPs from Miguel before his album drops on October 2nd!
Now here's an interesting way to release an album! Miguel chooses to do so in stages of EP releases for his sophomore release, Kaleidoscope Dream. The first is a 3-track EP called The Water Preview that will hit iTunes July 31st, and can be streamed in its entirety above via Spin. Miguel will then follow it up with The Air Preview dropping September 11th, and then the full LP on October 2nd, which will boast 5 more tracks. So 3 on this EP, 3 on the next EP, and 5 more on the full album. That comes out to... *opens Calculator app* ... 11 tracks total!
Now as for the 3 tracks we get to hear above... well, one is "Adorn", which is awesome, but not completely new to those in the know. The other 2 though... just as awesome. Miguel has really been carving his own lane into R&B with these complex, almost futuristic-like productions that combine with his powerful vocals. "Don't Look Back" and "Use Me" are both gems so Kaleidoscope Dream is off to quite a start. Be sure to listen for yourself by hitting that good blue link above.
Miguel drops the first volume of his Art Dealer Chic series and it features 3 tracks. Don’t worry there’s more tracks comin’ and these three are all gems. We already got a look at“Adorn” with the unique video a few weeks ago and that’s followed by a more uptempo “That I Do (FTRMX)” and then rounded out by my favorite of the three: “Gravity”. That one’s an instant groove that your lady will love. So, without further adieu, give this a quick download above and your R&B playlist will be happy.
What lies above is a highlight recap of what went down that night. Performance footage from all of the acts above mixed in a smooth flowing fashion with many of the interviews we got from the evening including Drea Oppan talking with the living legend MC Hammer, Blu, Elle Varner, Maya, and even New York Giants wide receiver Victor Cruz who taught Jen DeLeon how to do his signature touchdown salsa dance, hah! Watch above, you'll be entertained from beginning to end! Then check out our previous SXSW footage and some pictures below. More videos to come throughout the week!
That's right folks! WGCI had their annual 'Big Jam' and Gowhere Hip Hop was backstage on the scene. R&B sensation Miguel showed us mad love. Check out the interview as Miguel lets us in on his New Year's resolution, his greatest Eddie Murphy impersonation, where he looks to find his queen, and all about his one of a kind signature swag!
