Last night, Michael Jackson's 'Bad: 25' documentary premiered on ABC - a Spike Lee joint (got to present like that, ya know). The documentary looked very, very interesting as it goes in-depth on the creation of the album and MJ's first world tour. Never before seen footage of the creation process, rehearsal, and interviews with Mike's collaborators add to the intrigue. I didn't get a chance to watch it last night live, because my family was being equally as entertained by this, but I'm really lookin' forward to sitting down with the Bad: 25 doc later today.
Twenty years since its recording, Michael Jackson's music is still controversial. Released recently but recorded in the late eighties, "Song Goove (Abortion Papers)" addressed the topic still hot today. Stream it here.
Released 25 years ago, Michael Jackson's Bad was set to top his #1 hit, "Thriller." Though not surpassing his own paramount, Michael Jackson still launched himself into pop icon status. People were "hating" on Bad, though it had 5 consecutive number one singles, but will always be overshadowed by "Thriller." Michael was never able to top history's #1 album, leading him to lifelong tremendous pressure to top... himself.
Spike Lee pays tribute through his own personal relationship with the entertainer in his latest "Bad 25" documentary. He avoids the blaring spotlight and explores Michael's personal traits that launched him into pop monarchy. Shedding light on his obsessive perfectionism, Lee's moving story inevitably follows Michael to his downfall and premature death.

Can you believe it’s been 25 years since Michael Jackson first dropped Bad? No? Me either since I’m only 20, but that doesn’t mean this isn’t one of my all time favorite albums by the late great Michael Jackson! On September 18th, Epic Records will be releasing the 25th anniversary album of Bad entitled Bad 25. The multi-disc collection will feature rare DVD footage, unreleased material, and plenty more.
