The details are scarce, but the 30+ second teaser above makes it clear that Timba is looking to produce the next posthumous Michael Jackson project. Will it feature unreleased MJ vocals? Or Timbo remixes? A combo of both? I'll stop asking questions now?!
MJ's music is so timeless that it certainly doesn't need to be remixed but I know if Timbaland is handling the project, a. he'll be respectful and maintain MJ's essence, and b. has the potential to make a timeless hit for MJ on its own. So, I for one, approve. Hopefully more details to come sooner than later.
Fan art for the Michael Jackson x Justin Bieber collab "Slave To The Rhythm"
Over the weekend, Michael Jackson fans were either livid or elated at the news of a posthumous collab with Justin Bieber (and probably no in between, hah.) Here's the story via Billboard:
The track “Slave 2 The Rhythm” was reportedly recorded by Jackson well before his death in 2009, and quietly appeared in 2010. The reworked version adds Bieber’s vocals to the mix, and has already been spun by Capital FM in the U.K.
"Excited for what is to come. MJ set the bar," Bieber tweeted. "Not only for music but for being an entertainer and how u treat fans."
Subsequent posts of the track on YouTube and Soundcloud were yanked over the weekend. The YouTube video is replaced with a notice which explains, “The video is no longer available due to a copyright claim by SME."
I did my best to scour YouTube for a version and this is the best I could see... the audio may have been modified and by the time you're reading this, it may be shut down completely. I'm not really dying to hear this so I'll wait until if/when the song gets officially released. For those really lookin' for it though, have at it while it's up.
Michael Jackson "You Rock My World" f/ Chris Tucker [Music Video] (Extended Version)
With the BET Awards about to kick off tonight, and BET doin' right by letting Chris Tucker host, I figure it appropriate to bring back some of Chris Tucker's finest musical moments for an edition of #OldSchoolSundays. After all, he's been one of my favorite comedians since the 90s. Plus, just last week, Papa Tibs and I bonded over watching Rush Hour 3. Yes, that's the weakest of the three Rush Hours, but watching it again made me realize it was still a pretty hilarious an entertaining movie. Hope they follow through on a fourth one.
That's all besides the point as we first have to bring back a fun re-watch no matter how many times you've seen this: the extended version of Michael Jackson's music video/short film for "You Rock My World", which illustrated the friendship MJ and Chris Tucker had more than anything. One of my top tier *TIBS FAVS. from Michael Jackson too.
Plus, as you can tell, Tucker draws a lot of influence from MJ in his Rush Hour movies. All of these are fun clips to relive too — from Rush Hour 2, Chris Tucker's karaoke version of "Don't Stop Til You Get Enough", from Rush Hour 3, his MJ dance as a traffic cop to kick off the flick, and finally... one of the most iconic scenes from the Rush Hour series in the movie that began it all. Watch and enjoy — plus, what other moments may I be missing? I just picked a few off the top, and I'm sure there will be one from tonight's BET Awards. Back later with some of the show's highlights.

Last night, Michael Jackson's 'Bad: 25' documentary premiered on ABC - a Spike Lee joint (got to present like that, ya know). The documentary looked very, very interesting as it goes in-depth on the creation of the album and MJ's first world tour. Never before seen footage of the creation process, rehearsal, and interviews with Mike's collaborators add to the intrigue. I didn't get a chance to watch it last night live, because my family was being equally as entertained by this, but I'm really lookin' forward to sitting down with the Bad: 25 doc later today.
Twenty years since its recording, Michael Jackson's music is still controversial. Released recently but recorded in the late eighties, "Song Goove (Abortion Papers)" addressed the topic still hot today. Stream it here.
Released 25 years ago, Michael Jackson's Bad was set to top his #1 hit, "Thriller." Though not surpassing his own paramount, Michael Jackson still launched himself into pop icon status. People were "hating" on Bad, though it had 5 consecutive number one singles, but will always be overshadowed by "Thriller." Michael was never able to top history's #1 album, leading him to lifelong tremendous pressure to top... himself.
Spike Lee pays tribute through his own personal relationship with the entertainer in his latest "Bad 25" documentary. He avoids the blaring spotlight and explores Michael's personal traits that launched him into pop monarchy. Shedding light on his obsessive perfectionism, Lee's moving story inevitably follows Michael to his downfall and premature death.
Lost Jackson 5 track, "If the Shoe Don't Fit" released on the eve of the late King of Pop's, Michael Jackson, 54th Birthday. Be prepared to be streaming this alllllllll day long from NPR and don't forget your dancing shoes.
