UPDATE: Lil Wayne "You Song" f/ Chance The Rapper (prod. Nate Fox, Peter CottonTale, & Cam (of J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League) (NO TAGS)
The song of the weekend was "You Song" — Chance The Rapper's biggest collaboration to date, as a feature for Lil Wayne and Dedication 5. Now, in a new interview with Complex, we get some deep insight to the creation of the record (I love hearing these stories) and in the process, see how much Wayne trusted Chance to create the song and find out the reason for the last minute pushback of D5 was for this record to be completed. As told by one of the song's producers, Nate Fox:
C: Congratulations, this a huge look. What is the story behind this record?
NF: First of all, it was super, super random. I decided to come out to Chicago just to kick it for a little bit. I really didn't have a reason to be here. And Chance texted me saying "Come to the studio at 11." I get there at 11, and it's me and Peter, Cam, Chance, and Pat, and everybody's there. And he pulls us to the side and he's like "So....we have to make a song for Dedication 5...tonight." We were like, "Ok for sure, whatever you say." And Chance was like, "No, for real, they called me, they said I can send them whatever I want. Not like Wayne has a song for me, Wayne needs a song from me."
Instead of giving him a beat that we already got, or already started on—we wanted to just make something absolutely brand new. It pretty much just started out like Peter [Cottontale] coming up with chords, and everyone just starts putting all their little pieces in. I found that Michael sample and started chopping that up.
C: What's the sample?
NF: It's an a capella of MJ's "The Way You Make Me Feel."
C: So it all happened in one day?
NF: Yeah we started at 11 p.m. and finished at 11 a.m.
C: When was this?
NF: It was Wednesday night. A couple days ago. Actually, I'm pretty sure that's the reason that Dedication 5 got pushed back—because they were waiting on us to send a song. It was almost like it was supposed to happen. All the pieces have been kind of falling into place when it comes to anything, me and Chance related. I don't know why, but the universe is just like, "Yes, this is happening."
C: Lastly, what did you think of Wayne's verse?
NF: I thought it was flames. But we were definitely thinking that's what would happen. People have this preconceived notion of what Wayne raps on these days. So we were all like, "Let's make something that will challenge Wayne again and force him to pull that Tha Carter II shit out of him," and I think we got that.

One of the standout tracks of Lil Wayne's Dedication 5 mixtape has been "You Song" that features Chicago emcee Chance The Rapper. This is a very impressive track because it compliments Chance's style in terms of instrumentals and the music that his fans have become acquainted with. It's good to know how well off Chance has gotten as the most promising emcee in today's current Chicago Hip-Hop youth movement to have linked up with one of Hip-Hop's highest record selling artists of all-time.
Ladies and gents, hope you enjoyed your long Labor Day Weekend if you're a United States reader. Even though it was a slow weekend in quanity, there were still a lot of big and noteworthy new releases.
Beginning with the return of Lil Wayne with the Dedication series as he dropped 29 new tracks in the 5th installment, with one standout collab earning a lot of chatter around Chicago and across the interwebs — "You Song" featuring Chance The Rapper.

The America's Most Wanted Tour 2013 made its stop in Albuquerque, New Mexico last weekend, and the show was a sight to behold!
A group performed some promotional tunes as a huge crowd filled the Isleta Amphitheater. Ultimately they were ratchet club bangers, and not bad for newbies. As night fell, at 8pm sharp the lights went out and 2 Chainz emerged. His set was filled with nothing but hits and new material from his sophomore album: B.O.A.T.S. II – Me Time (Based on A True Story 2) due out September 10th. 2 Chainz set was very unexpected, he did not leave any gaps to catch your breath, and publicly commented on popular issues surround himself; Such as the drug raid of his tour bus earlier this week in OKC, “thats player shit!”.
T.I. graced the stage second, his act was a concert in itself. The Platinum rapper fuzed a short film and an actual “Trap House” together on stage. “Tip” performed while interacting with the audience and the set piece's. His portion of the show is based in positive reaffirmation and left the audience filled with excitement.
Lil Wayne aka Weezy aka Weezy F. Baby please say the baby, hosted for two hours. There are back up dancers, skateboarders, lots of pyro and hits on hits on hits! Wayne opened with a great show and ended with a epic performance. Most all of his memorable songs were played or performed and accompanied by a live band. T.I. And 2 Chainz joined both Birdman Junior for performances.
All in all, the show was explosive and to make matters better, Albuquerque is a secret hot spot for some fine women. :)
It has been a while since we had gotten a complete project from Lil Wayne but today that is put to an end with the release of Dedication 5, a 29 track mixtape. Yes, you read that right. It is 29 songs from which some are remixes and some are original tracks including a track featuring Chicago emcee Chance The Rapper. The features in the tape include The Weeknd, Chance The Rapper, T.I., 2Chainz, Vado, Future and several YMCMB artists. It's a lot of tracks to digest so kick back and enjoy!
UPDATE: The Lil Wayne Dedication 5 download link and stream are above, with my thoughts earlier in the night when the tracklist was revealed below.
29 tracks and a bevy of new freestyles from Weezy.
Features from T.I., 2 Chainz, Future, The Weeknd, Chance The Rapper, Mack Maine, Birdman, and more.
My first move was to skip right to track 7 (15:42 in the stream) to hear if the Lil Wayne x Chance The Rapper collab sounds as good as it does on paper. And sure enough, it does. I had to run back Chance's verse a couple times before I let it proceed to Weezy's. An easy *Tibs Fav. for what many would call Chance's biggest look as a featured guest.
Some notables: how about Chance The Rapper with his biggest feature yet?
Anyway, a familiar cast of features follows suit like tourmates T.I. & 2 Chainz, Birdman, Mack Maine, and Jae Millz. Plus, I'm also intrigued to hear his collab/intro track with The Weeknd. Dedication 5 dropping soon, but I don't even know when. It could be moments after this post or continue to be delayed. It was supposed to drop yesterday, the 30th, but the finishing touches are still being put on it. Stay tuned for an update!
Weezy fans, you got a lot to look forward to this week. He's back with a new mixtape, hosted by DJ Drama & Gangsta Grillz of course, the fifth installment of the Dedication series on August 30th. Here is a look at cartoon Weezy in the Dedication 5 mixtape cover above.
