Kendrick Lamar has come out as the top nominee for the 2013 Soul Train Awards. The artist is nominated for 6 awards: Best New Artist, Best Hip-Hop Song of the Year, Album of the Year, Video of the Year, Best Collaboration, and Song of the Year.
Following Kendrick with 5 nominations each are Miguel, Justin Timberlake, Robin Thicke, Chris Brown, and Tamar Braxton. Notably left off the list of nominees is Kanye West, whose album Yeezus has been met with mixed reviews since its release earlier this summer.
One of the most hotly anticipated collabs on Pusha T's upcoming album, My Name Is My Name, as he links up with Kendrick Lamar over a Nottz-produced banger called "Nosetalgia". Keep a close ear to Kendrick's nod to Push at the beginning of his verse (well-executed). Give a listen above, with Flex bombs for now, and view the other hotly anticipated collabs on the tracklist that was revealed over the weekend.
It's been a helluva 24 hours in music to kick off the week. By now you've undoubtedly heard Nothing Was The Same one or one hundred times, but here's a quick rundown of some other big-name tracks that dropped ICYMI.
Chicago, Yeezus will have a second coming... of sorts. 'Ye added a second date for his hometown "due to overwhelming demand", says AEG Live, for Saturday November 9th (on top of Thursday, the 7th) and tickets go on sale later this morning at 10am. Get up I get down!
Yesterday at a performance in NYC, Kendrick Lamar aimed some direct shots back at Meek Mill after Meek released "Ooh Kill Em" over the weekend, aimed at Kendrick. Here are the words from K. Dot:
"I been doing this s**t for years...I mastered this s**t. I have no time for irrelevant n***as [or] new n***as. There's one n***a in particular that needs to realize that there's 'levels' to this s**t. I'm MOTHER F**KIN' KING KENDRICK."
Meek then responded with these tweets:
Then these two tweets that have since been deleted:
"I'm the only nigga coming thru the streets w/ the baddest bitch in the game on my bike w/ a 100 hittaz & army tanks behind me!" and "That's a king..... It's really levels!"
And knowing Meek Mill's track record with Cassidy, I'm not sure this beef is dying down anytime soon. Stay tuned...
It was awkward, it was light-hearted at times, it was full of compliments, and it was awkward some more. And it just happened on live TV as Eminem joined Brent Musberger & Kirk Herbstreit at halftime in his home state of Michigan for an interview and world premiere of the "Berzerk" video teaser.
This was a fun Twitter moment if you just happened to watch it. If not, press play above and see some odd, and vintage Eminem.
Shouts Deadspin on the rip. When the teaser hits the web, we'll have another update. It already revealed cameos by Rick Rubin, Slaughterhouse (no surprises yet...) and Kendrick Lamar!
