Looks like John Legend has done it again. John Legend released this new song from his forthcoming album Love In The Future. This song is said to be in dedication to his fiance Chrissy Teigen. This album is expected to drop September 3rd, you can pre-order it here on iTunes. He's kept a pretty tight seal on this track so make sure to listen to the stream below.
20 tracks! Four of 'em bonus, but wow, that is more than your usual R&B album. No complaints here but will the subject matter vary enough to warrant such a long album? I don't doubt that's possible, especially with a couple of the tracks labeled as interludes likely not being too lengthy. Features include Rick Ross on the previously released "Who Do We Think We Are" and Seal and Stacy Barthe. Kanye West is also to said to be the album's executive producer. Lookin' forward to September 3rd!
Caught this while perusing Instagram just now: Mickey Factz revealing a collab with John Legend; plus, it being a single for the upcoming project, The Achievement. I'm always lookin' forward to new Mick - he's got the notoriety, yet also still one of the most slept on lyricists and storytellers in the grand scheme of things. I sense we'll have new music sooner rather than later, and hopefully it's this record. Legend is one of my favorite singers period and he'd make for a natural fit with Mickey Factz.
John Legend "Tonight" x "Made To Love" today on Good Morning America
A double dose of John Legend today as he took over the Summer Concert Series on Good Morning America with a stellar performance of last year's hit "Tonight (Best I Ever Had)" and his new single "Made To Love" that dropped this week. The latter has been in the roto everyday and that won't stop for the unforeseeable future. Especially after watching how he performed it live as some subtle additions like the fans clapping quickly and Legend's smooth outro on the piano are now engrained in my head. Legend always delivers a great live experience, which if you have never seen before is a must-see come this fall with his newly announced tour dates! Fellas, this is a concert you'll surely enjoy with your significant other. See below when John Legend will be coming to your town.
John Legend 'Made To Love' Tour Dates (more to be announced):
John Legend releases the new single to Love In The Future, and it's rumored to have been produced by Kanye West. He said to Hello Beautiful (who had the premiere): "I worked on it with Kanye a lot. He’s the executive producer of the album. He’s been very involved with a lot of the tracks." Rap-Up states that West co-produced this with Dave Tozer (who also co-wrote "Made To Love" with John).
The dominant tribal sounds and samples are evident of Kanye's style, while a beautiful orchestral outro also sounds like it has Ye's touch on it. Vocally, you know John Legend is going to bring it and this is no exception, and conceptually, he sings to his lady that they're meant to be together. Love the sound and I'm vibing with the lyrics. Love In The Future drops September 3rd.
Also last night: John Legend & Chrissy Teigen on Oprah's Next Chapter, as the power couple sat down with the living legend for a sit-down on a number of topics. First above: John Legend revealing the unseen side of close collaborator and friend, Kanye West. JL continues to hold it down as he shouted out J. Ivy for giving him the name John Legend with Oprah, as J. Ivy posted this morning. There are many more clips on Oprah's site here, which include the story of how his 2011 proposal almost got ruined by airport security, the rumors of the couple cheating on each other, and how John knew Chrissy was the one. Fans of the couple will certainly enjoy.
"This is the beginning of... forever..!!" - John Legend
Switchin' it up for this edition of #OldSchoolSundays to some classic R&B from one John Stephens... better known today as John Legend. Yup, this video comes from a live performance in Philadelphia in 2002 when Legend went by his real name of John Stephens (the story of how he got the name John Legend was from J. Ivy, in fact. He told us that story and it's pretty crazy... we'll have him tell it to you pretty soon..!)
Anyway, it is amazing to look back at the roots of Legend's superb live performances, plus his early career look with that fresh 'fro. But why "Stay With You"? Well, the song has long been a favorite of mine on Legend's debut album, Get Lifted, but it took extra meaning for me today as it was the fitting soundtrack to a sand ceremony at a wedding I attended. You see, I'm 25 now and today was the first wedding I went to for someone my age. Without going into too much detail, it was a fun college reunion up in Minnesota but I definitely felt an extra kick into adulthood by witnessing my two friends, that are my age, tie the knot. Great feeling though, and what a perfect day!
I also happened to have the presence of mind to Vine this moment of "Stay With You" at the wedding today (and yes, I'm as fully obsessed with the new social media app as the rest of the industry now... so follow us @gowherehiphop ..!). So take a quick look-see at that as well below!
An interesting mix of Benassi's usual dance and uptempo production with John Legend's vocals. JL does his thing and while this may take some getting used to, it's somethin' new and different. Definitely more of a classy party record. Give this one a spin above!
