Last week at The Hideout here in Chicago, we were on hand for Kids These Days' Traphouse Rock release party and above, you can catch a quick video of the energetic scene with the Kids interacting with their fans. Plus, Vic Mensa & Nico Segal give us one of our favorite shoutouts to date, hah!
Listen/download Traphouse Rock here and give my commentary a look-see as well here. Watch out for the Kids to make another big jump after this one!
Plus, who won the "Kids These Days Award" for the 2012-13 NBA Season? Check that out here.
And now... the photos! Closing out August every year in Chicago, Dwyane Wade returns to his hometown for a weekend of charity events raising money and awareness for Wade's World Foundation. One of the main events is the Chicago Has Talent Showcase - a talent show displaying the variety of talents the Chicago youth has to offer.
Last week, we brought you the video (which includes words from Wade himself, judge Michelle Williams (of Destiny's Child), and co-host Tika Sumpter), and now in the slideshow above, we have some cool photos from the Chicago Theatre. In addition to the big-name celebs on hand, also see photos of featured performer Jacob Latimore, judges Billy Dec, David Silbaugh, and Kim Tyler, and last but certainly not least - the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners - Maeya Ryan, Jake Julian, and Kristen Lowe.
I can't emphasize enough how talented not only those three, but all of the performers. Once again, catch the video below in case you missed it and see for yourselves!
Recently, I linked with 2008ighties very own UG at the Gowhere headquarters. It's always a good time when this fresh hip-hop crew is around the office. This time around, I chopped it up with producer/rapper UG. We spoke about his relationship with the rest of BRKF$T Club, college life, his heritage, and his creative process behind his first full length tape Mercy Me.
The Straight Slammin' protege known as G-Scott slid through the Gowhere office a couple weeks ago to talk a little business. G-Scott and I linked for a quick interview before his Gowhere Hip Hop sponsored #HelloLosVegas listening party (video below).
I had a great time hosting his listening party and enjoyed interviewing the young Gary, IN producer/emcee. Check the interview above as G-Scott talks #HelloLosVegas, Proletarians, his writing process, favorite last resort drink, and relationship with Gangsta Gibbs.
The self-proclaimed "King Of Chicago", G.o.D. Jewels recently stopped by GWHQ and first talked with our own Samantha Lebbos(below, in case you missed it). But before he left, we also threw on "New God Flow" and witnessed a furious set of intellectual rhymes from Chicago's Basquiat (another alias). You can really feel Jewels' angst in the lyrics against the hurdles of comin' up, even specifically in the Chicago hip hop scene. Flat out, these raps are the latest in many examples of why G.o.D. Jewels is on my personal shortlist of Chicago emcees on the rise. Watch above and be sure to get to know him more with our fun interview below. (Hope to hear these bars recorded over this or maybe a future song altogether...)
Follow GWHH in this new video above on our road trip from Chicago, IL to Austin, TX where we attended SXSW 2012 earlier this year! We were rollin' in double digits, rented a van, rented a house in Austin, and attended all of the big-name events that were going on all week at SXSW. Seen in the video is a compilation of some of the fun times we had together on the road trip and a glimpse at some of those events and interviews we got during the week. Easily one of the most memorable team trips ever, shoutout to #TeamGowhere!
What an awesome weekend Lollapalooza was this year. Chicago was filled with entertainment from morning to night. This year, Govia and I got to cover the festival and the after parties. Not only did we listen to your favorite songs from your favorite artists, but we got to talk to a few of them. Check out this Lollapalooza recap that was put together for all of you who couldn't attend or just want to relive the experience. The interviews include artists who took over the Perry Stage such as Bassnectar, Paper Diamond, Zedd, DJ Zebo, and Zeds Dead who talk about what it takes to become an artist and the use of all the production these days. Also, Black Sabbath's keyboardist Adam Wakeman talks to us about the few shows this year with Ozzy Osbourne. This recap also includes many more performances at Lollapalooza such as The Weeknd, Frank Ocean, Childish Gambino, Red Hot Chili Peppers and more from after parties at the Hard Rock Hotel. Enjoy!
What a great way to launch Lollapalooza weekend by interviewing Miguel. I was so excited watching him perform at the Hard Rock Hotelfor the Soul Sounds Pre-Lolla Kickoff Party. Not only did we get to watch him perform live ("All I Want Is You" & "Quickie" seen above), we got to talk to him on the red carpet. Watch and get the inside scoop on his new album and why he is releasing two EPs of songs from the album before releasing Kaleidoscope Dream in full on October 2. You’d be surprised by his answer. He also tells us what is the one food he can't live without. Enjoy!
