Congrats are in order for The Weeknd, who has taken the next step in his career, both with an evolved sound and also numerically with the new album, Kiss Land. His album debuted at #2, narrowly behind Keith Urban's Fuse with the rounded figures coming to 98K vs. 95K. 2 Chainz debuted at #3 with his new album, Boats II: Me Time, pulling in 63K (highly shy of his 147K debut with Based On A T.R.U. Story, but the general album sales decline in between is part the cause there). Janelle Monae's Electric Lady came in at #5 with 47K sold — her first top 10 debut (I feel like more people should be buying this!)
My favorite album of the flurry that has been released these past couple months is turning out to be Kiss Land. Be sure to cop this if you've even been a casual fan of The Weeknd up until this point. Rounding the post out is an #InstaVideo of Drake congratulating The Weeknd on the new album.
One of the Target bonus tracks for Electric Lady is a remix of the title track as Janelle Monae is now joined by Big Boi, Cee-Lo Green, and Solange. What a natural set of artists, huh? This funtempo groove (see what I did there?) is certainly worth a listen while you go out and cop the album now.
As a bonus, here's Janelle on the Today Show yesterday performing "Dance Apocalyptic"

Janelle Monae "Dance Apocalyptic" LIVE on Today Show
Janelle Monae's upcoming album, The Electric Lady, is prime for release a week from today on September 10th. She officially offered up the album for free streaming in its entirety today through VH1 so you can get a sense of how collabs with the likes of Prince, Erykah Badu, Solange, Esperanza Spalding, and Miguel all sound individually and in context of each other. In fact, the Miguel collab was already released, as I liked "Primetime" enough for a *Tibs Fav. rating. Listen to The Electric Lady below!
Janelle Monae The Electric Lady [Full Album Stream]
Here's a hotly anticipated collab from Janelle Monae's upcoming album, The Electric Lady — a beautiful duet with Miguel. This is for the couples in love and a slow jam with the perfect tempo and balance between both great vocalists. Plus, how bout that classic electric guitar solo in the outro? Vintage feel there.
"PrimeTime" is an easy add for any R&B fan and likewise, an easy *Tibs Fav.. Janelle's album, The Electric Lady, is one to watch out for September 10th.
That's right: two discs! And Janelle Monae's got quite the cast of artists around her: Prince, Miguel, Erykah Badu, Solange, and Esperanza Spalding. That's a helluva lot of Grammys on one album. And I wouldn't be surprised if that continues for Ms. Monae. The Electric Lady drops September 10th.
