Real T@lk "Trill Flow Pt. 2" f/ L.A. Van Gogh & Lili K (dir. Dartise)
I've been looking really forward to the final product after the teaser dropped on Monday, and just as I expected, Real T@lk delievers with a fresh concept and captivating new video that stands out amongst the rest of the sea of new videos that drop everyday.
Real T@lk and featured guests, fellow Chicago artists L.A. Van Gogh and Lili K, are figures on display in a museum... except they rhyme and sing in place. The effect is very dope, reminding me of that Ben Stiller movie A NIght At The Museum where all the exhibits come to life.
Throughout the side-scrolling video (this presentation makes it even more engaging to follow), museum patrons walk up to each artist and take photos like they were trying to document a painting or sculpture that you would normally find at a museum. The musicians also join an interpretive dancer and painter Janeen as other exhibits in the museum. Plus, the song and video go hand in hand as the soulful production and contemplative, thought-provoking raps (both emcees have some slick lines and flows, naturally) that are brought to life with a minimalist look at the artists performing them.
Download this *Tibs Fav. off Real T@lk's The Talented Tenth 8.0 (one of my favorite mixtapes in the past year so download it all) and shoutout to Real T@lk and Emmy-award winning director Dartise for executing such a unique concept and delivering a video that'll certainly grab the attention of the casual listener. Proud to kick off the day of fresh Blogs with this #GWHHPremiere — check it out!

July 13th, 2013 was a day filled with appreciation of art, poetry and music. The amazingly talented painter Janeen held an art and instrumental event in downtown Chicago. This event was not only to show off different skills of art but, also an appreciation for those with breast cancer. This was definitely an eye opener for those that love art and for those that are interested in the culture of art.
When entering the venue, nothing but love and support filled the room. Beautiful smiles along with bold introductions were given as a generous amount of soulful food was placed in your hand (In a plate) to feed the mind, body and soul before the show started. Also with the food came tasteful desserts such as milk, cookies, cotton candy, chocolate sticks and pie to fill your sweet tooth.
After filling the stomach with such great food, it was time for the show to begin. As the crowd took their seats, Janeen guided the show away. The first artist that stepped to the mic was the urban culture poet Ebonee. This woman had words that could really speak to one's mind. The emotion filled in each word was full of passion, as she continued speaking in each piece she gave. Ebonee spoke each piece of poetry as if she was the only person in the room, but she surely connected to each heart that was in the area.
Next stepping to the mic was the homie Real T@lk. The name speaks for itself. Using bold metaphors and mindful stories, he gain the attention and support of the crowd. Real T@lk did more than just rap, he created a visual picture for our eyes to see and did justice to the genre we all know as Hip-Hop. As the beats from the music had your body bouncing, the skill and flow that Real T@lk presented had hands waving in the air and the crowd chanting his words. I for one chanted a few times, esspecially..."DYNAMITE, DYNAMITE"!! As Janeen stated "He's Dope", I easily agreed after his performance. #DOPExHYPExFRESH performance Bruh.
After the poetry and music was complete, the crowd went crazy with excitement because the talented Janeen was about to give a live show of how she creates her artwork. With this piece of work being dedicated to her mother (A breast cancer survivor), everyone know that this work of art was going to be a wonder to see. As the smooth tunes filled the room, with Janeen's mother in front row, she lets all emotion and creativity bleed into each brush stroke. As Janeen grooved to the tunes, the picture became clearer. Beautiful shapes, bold and bright colored with a piece of mind certainly described her appreciation and views of her mother. Once the piece was complete, a loud standing ovation was given with tears of joy and a rosey blush from her mother was given. This piece opened our eyes and warmed our heart. This piece has to be one of my favorites.
Before the night ended, Janeen's mother took the stage and gave each and everyone of us some words of encouragement. Speaking from the mind and heart, this Holy woman touched each of our hearts. After hearing some wise words of wisdom given from such an amazing woman, it was time for the event to come to an end. Although the event came to an end, we all left with a blessed mind.
Thank you to Janeen for such an amazing experience. And thank you for giving us the chance to see your wonderful artwork. We here at GWHH look forward to seeing more of your work soon.
Another edition of Janeen's Art & Instrumentals is upon us! Tomorrow we're sponsoring the live art event, where Janeen will make a painting on the spot, inspired by the moods of instrumentals blaring in the space. We can say first hand how cool of an experience it is to witness live art, on the spot, in about 15 minutes. Lookin' forward to seeing more work of hers and how her signature style continues to progress.
You can get a glimpse of Janeen's work and what to expect from the event tomorrow in the slideshow above. The photos (taken by Dartise) were from May's installment and in addition to the art, you'll see the live music and everything from popcorn to sherberts to cookies & milk! What other events treat you with such great food and art? The flyer below has all the details on when/where to get there; plus, portions of the event will go to a great cause All About Pink: A Breast Cancer Foundation.

Last week, we threw our first of more events to come at the New Era Chicago flagship store downtown - a FREE show, nay! Experience.
Gemstones headlined "Elephant In The Room LIVE!" - the first time he performed tracks from his new mixtape (a must-DL), which included remixes of Adele's "Rolling In The Deep" and Fun's "We Are Young". Additionally, Gem performed many verses a capella style, to really drive home his eye-opening messages of building a relationship with God as well as the ills of society and the music industry. It's quite frankly the first, and only hip hip show we've all been to, that began with a blessing and ended with everyone joining hands in prayer. Yup, literally everyone. It was a powerful series of moments to say the least.
Adding to the experience was the live art during Gemstones' performance from Janeen. You can see her creation in the photos - a painting entitled "Gemstones" that was inspired by the words he was intensely delivering to the packed store. We'll have our own, in-depth video covering it all coming soon, but for now, get a glimpse of what went down with the amazing photos above and a bonus guerilla-style video of Gemstones performing "Crazy" below.
For the first time ever, Gemstones is going to perform material from his new mixtape, Elephant In The Room, and we teamed with New Era to present this performance LIVE and FREE for you! Just drop in the New Era store downtown on 207 S. State St. between 7 and 9 tonight!
You'll also get to experience some live art by Janeen Kern, with music provided by Shade 45 & Power 92's DJ Averi Minor, and host Julian On Da Radio keeping things funny and entertaining. #TeamGowhere will be rockin' heavy, so come visit our table and take advantage of FREE giveaways, food, and beverages as well!
