In another edition of ICYMI, the new release that I think takes the cake for the past couple of days is J. Cole's short film for "Crooked Smile". I was expecting to see TLC in the video, but J. Cole had a different approach. Instead, there were no performance scenes and he told the story of himself as a drug dealer and a DEA agent after him. They each love their respective daughters but things take a sad turn when the DEA agent and his team take down Cole's character. The video is in memory of Aiyana Stanley-Jones, which if you read her story, you'll see how she was the inspiration. I'm sure I'm amongst many who felt emotional after taking this one in and so if you haven't seen it yet, I highly suggest you do when in the right mood. Brilliant job by Cole and director Sheldon Candis.
Oh yeah, fans of these 2 can't help but feel some sense of curiousity for what they're cookin' up next. Ashanti revealed she was in the studio with Ja Rule and reunited with him after the rapper was recently released from prison. We'll see where this goes, but I'll be one of the many that tunes in..
TMZ has learned that Ja Rule is a free man. His wife picked him up from Ray Brook Federal Prison and drove him straight home this morning for Ja's house arrest confinement until July 28th. The jail stint was for sentences of tax evasion and gun possession, concurrently, for the past 2 years. I'd expect some new Ja Rule music after being in jail sometime this year (so is the pattern, it seems).
