Catch up on the week that was in music on this festive Thanksgiving holiday! First, Eminem dropped a really cool visual for his well-liked 6 minutes of bars proclaiming himself the "Rap God". Watch that above and get in tune with some of the week's biggest songs below.
New B.o.B & Childish Gambino singles, a Pusha T feature on the debut single from Chicago singer Chris James, Joey Bada$$ over some unreleased J Dilla, and a standout from Trae Tha Truth's new mixtape, I Am King, featuring Lupe Fiasco. Enjoy!
The Yancey Boys paid Sway a visit to promote their new album, Sunset Blvd. and in the process shared some cool stories about the legacy of the late great J Dilla. Illa J, his brother, talks about the natural pressures he faces in making music after the passing of Jay. Plus, he and Frank Nitt touch on the album and how they once collected unheard J Dilla music from someone who was unaware he had unheard J Dilla music! Dang. Hah! Peep the interview, check out the album, and watch the Yancey Boys new video for "Quicksand" featuring Common & Dezi Paige (one of my favorite tracks to drop in the last couple months).
Audio Push release a soulful one on this Sunday by flipping the J Dilla-produced "So Far To Go", adding Preston Harris for the hook, and spittin' some raw, honest raps about their lifestyle and love for music. I vibe with this one — a release that coincides with the drop of their new website: AudioPush.com.
I've been listening to "Day Off" for a couple of days now. I'll put the track on and then pull up the email that MoShadee sent me. I'm listening to him rhyme. I'm reading what he has written. I can’t quite figure out what to say about the track and I don't want to take anything away from his words so I'm just going to share the email with you.
"I called out of work one day this past week. My vibes were all off, energy wasn't right. Sometimes I feel as people we have to step back and collect ourselves when things aren't feeling right. That's what I did. In that time, “Day Off” was created. Enjoy."
This is a fantastic example of how we all need a little disconnect every now and then. It's important that we take a step back and analyze the situation when we feel things are not how they should be. Moving forward is key, but sometimes despite our direction being forward we might end up having to backtrack because we ignored how we were truly feeling. Listen to yourself and forget about taking shortcuts. Be in it — life — for the long haul.
MoShadee goes over J Dilla’s “On The 1” and it’s Creestal with the scratches. CM Jones continues to impress me and I cannot wait for the new project to be released. Details to come soon.
