Kendrick Lamar talks "Control" with Rosenberg on Hot 97
First off, apologies on the delay ladies and gents. If you've been checking the site today, we've been down for much of it and just now back up and running after a server upgrade (this is great news!). If you were social media savvy, hopefully you caught the updated on our Twitter and much of the cool new content we put up on our tumblr today :) But now, back to our regulary scheduled programming blog posts...
I begin tonight with Kendrick Lamar addressing "Control" in a series of new interviews today. First, he talked with Rosenberg of Hot 97 this morning in a candid 20 minute chat heard above. He talks about how he heard "Control" was making the waves it did when he was across the pond in the U.K. at the time of its release, his favorite of the responses (King Los), and much more about the hip hop game. I let this play in the background while I was cooking breakfast this morning. ICYMI, you can do so too.
Kendrick also appeared on Chelsea Lately for the first time tonight and the two touched on "Control" and the VMA performance as some fun back and forth by Chelsea made it more interesting. Watch that one below.
Twitter's latest roast victim: Papoose. The interwebs went crazy with the MEMEs after Papoose performed a song after Kendrick Lamar & TDE's set, much to everyone's surprise. In fact, since he wasn't listed on the bill, and performed at that time slot, many were led to believe that he pulled a Lil Mama and just jumped on stage. Well, that was all cleared up today when Rosenberg said that TDE's camp told them they'd be bringing Papoose on stage because of the times he's looked out for Kendrick when Kendrick was still comin' up. The full interview and performance are below, and now Papoose's call-in to Hot 97. Enjoy the humorous MEMEs above.
Summer Jam was last night and took over your social media streams if you weren't out in NYC seeing Hot 97's 20th installment of the festival. Here is a quick-hitting summary of some of the highlights, beginning with 2 Chainz premiering his new single "Feds Watching" above and performs with Nicki Minaj here.
What did you guys think of Summer Jam XX? Did it live up to the hype? And is Summer Jam in the pantheon of hip hop's biggest concerts/tours this year?

And the talk of Twitter (somehow), Papoose's seemingly surprise performance after Kendrick/TDE (more details in a new post coming...)
In their first talk since last year's Summer Jam incident, Nicki Minaj sat down with Peter Rosenberg to talk it all out this morning! Essentially, Peter Rosenberg dissed Nicki's "Starships" song while hyping up the crowd at last year's Summer Jam, which led to Minaj taking offense and not performing later on in her scheduled set. The video above is the full 27 minute talk that Rosenberg and Nicki had this morning and it's an interesting play in the background this morning. Not that I'm caught up in this "beef", but moreso from an angle of resolving the conflict, it was interesting to hear both takes and perspectives. At the end of the day, it's water under the bridge now and they proceeded to talk about other topics like going back to her mixtape roots, her upcoming album, and even making a movie with Cameron Diaz. That conversation can be seen/heard below.
