For the release of Cruel Summer today, G.O.O.D. Music hit the 106 & Park stage earlier this evening to talk about the very much anticipated album. Everyone except Kanye was there in attendance to touch on topics such as their upcoming projects, the recording process that took place, and what they've all learned from Kanye during his throne era. All this and much, much more can be seen below. Check it!
iTunes put out 30 second previews of every track off Cruel Summer, which is now officially one week away from release. You can stream them yourself above and follow along to the tracklist below.
Some early impressions: had high hopes for "To The World" with 'Ye & R. Kelly joining forces, but not a fan of that hook by Kellz. Out of the other previously unheard tracks, I'm most lookin' forward to "The One" & "Creepers" with "The Morning", "Sin City", and "Bliss" sounding like they could be *Tibs Favs as well.
What's the one track you're most looking forward to now?
1. “To the World” – Kanye West, R. Kelly
2. “Clique” – Kanye West, Jay-Z, Big Sean
3. “Mercy” – Kanye West, Big Sean, Pusha T, 2 Chainz
4. “New God Flow” – Kanye West, Pusha T, Ghostface Killah
5. “The Morning” – Raekwon, Pusha T, Common, 2 Chainz, CyHi Da Prynce, Kid Cudi, D’Banj
6. “Cold” – DJ Khaled, Kanye West
7. “Higher” – The-Dream, Pusha T, Ma$e
8. “Sin City” – John Legend, Travi$ Scott, Teyana Taylor, CyHi Da Prynce, Malik Yusef
9. “The One” – Kanye West, Big Sean, 2 Chainz, Marsha Ambrosius

08.31.12: What do you think of the rumored tracklist for G.O.O.D. Music's long-awaited compilation album, Cruel Summer (currently set for a September 18th release)?
Me? I'm glad to see CyHi not get left out in the cold. Great to see R. Kelly, Malik Yusef, and lots of Cudi, Sean, and Legend. No doubt, I'll be anticipating this one. September's shaping up to be quite the month for hip hop, no?
'Ye keeps the same theme for his single artwork - officially announcing today "Clique", which will feature Big Sean & Jay-Z alongside of him. This matches up with the rumored tracklist for Cruel Summer that dropped last week. Plus, Big Sean's Detroit mixtape is coming out tomorrow, so this should be quite the September for G.O.O.D.
The September 18th push back that was rumored is now confirmed. The plus side: the reason for the delay, according to Malik Yusef, is that 4 additional features are being added, with one of them being Mighty Mos Def, a.k.a. yasiin bey. For additional features, I can wait a couple more weeks, especially if they're on the level of Mos. And technically, September 18th is still summer... hah! (shouts 2 FSD).
EDIT: I have a sneaky feeling that G.O.O.D. might do the September 6th, post-VMAs iTunes only drop. No sources, no leads, just a suspicion. Feels like that's just the cool way to drop an album now (see: Watch The Throne and Channel Orange). In a related note: it is pretty cool.
Nothing has been confirmed by Def Jam yet but Malik Yusef and Amazon have said that Cruel Summer may not be ready until September 18th and not September 4th which was the original release date. Hopefully this isn't the beginning of numerous push backs if true.
G.O.O.D. Music's hotly anticipated upcoming album, Cruel Summer, is due out September 4th and today, we get a glimpse at the newly revealed artwork. It looks like 'Ye may have enlisted the work of Tisci again (the GIVENCHY designer of the Watch The Throne cover art) and I don't doubt there will be a continued theme throughout the entire box set of the album like WTT. I'm intrigued to hear their ideas behind the nude cover and what else they have in store for the design. Here is one more look at the cover in this 3D look at the CD.
