Last week, we threw our first of more events to come at the New Era Chicago flagship store downtown - a FREE show, nay! Experience.
Gemstones headlined "Elephant In The Room LIVE!" - the first time he performed tracks from his new mixtape (a must-DL), which included remixes of Adele's "Rolling In The Deep" and Fun's "We Are Young". Additionally, Gem performed many verses a capella style, to really drive home his eye-opening messages of building a relationship with God as well as the ills of society and the music industry. It's quite frankly the first, and only hip hip show we've all been to, that began with a blessing and ended with everyone joining hands in prayer. Yup, literally everyone. It was a powerful series of moments to say the least.
Adding to the experience was the live art during Gemstones' performance from Janeen. You can see her creation in the photos - a painting entitled "Gemstones" that was inspired by the words he was intensely delivering to the packed store. We'll have our own, in-depth video covering it all coming soon, but for now, get a glimpse of what went down with the amazing photos above and a bonus guerilla-style video of Gemstones performing "Crazy" below.
When you look at the names on this track you can't help but get excited about the potential of the song, and I have to say that it lived up to the expectations. All the verses were solid, the production was dope and Kris Stephens sounded great. Make sure to go grab Trouble Man Heavy Is The Head today.
I wasn't the biggest fan of Soul when I first heard him, now every time I hear a new track from him it seems like he's getting colder. TDE has to have the strongest camp right now and Soul is furthering that belief for me right now.
The reason this song made the list this week had nothing to do with song and I want to make sure I put that out there first. The reason I put this song on the list was soley because my name was spelled out in the hook, and I imagined me leaving a club one night and the hook playing as I walked out the door. Call me what you want but everybody wishes they had some sort of theme music or exit music now I do.
I feel like this was probably the most overlooked but cold as hell song from last week. Gemstones take on December 21st and what's to come for the world period I feel like musically came across great. Regardless of what you believe something is happening in the world and shout to Gemstones for speaking on it.
Dido has great taste when it comes to the rappers that she works with, going from the amazing voice that was on Stan with Eminem now featuring Kendrick on her newest single. The song is dope as hell and K-Dot compliment the track perfectly.
That's this week list, as always let me know what you think in the comments or hit me up on Twitter.

I woke from a quick afternoon nap to see a new text and e-mail with new music from Gemstones today. To my pleasant surprise, Gem drops a gem today entitled "2012", centered around the possibilities of what's to come on December 21st, 2012.
There's been much talk about the Mayan prophecy of the end of the world and other changes that are being predicted and Gem outlines what "they" have been saying, concluding that something will happen! The tight raps and brilliant singing outro are all accompanied by a fitting and ominous sample of Aerosmith's "Dream On".
Grab this *TIBS FAV. above and if you're looking for more of these thought-provoking remixes from Gemstones, then don't sleep any longer on Elephant In The Room.

Coinciding with the release of his new website, gemstonesforlife.com, Gemstones releases the long-anticipated follow-up to Road To Glory: My Story with Elephant In The Room.
The mixtape features samples and remixes of classics like Paul McCartney & Michael Jackson's "Say Say Say" and New Edition's "Once In A Lifetime Groove" with current hits ranging from Adele to Kanye West & Jay-Z to Chief Keef. You'll also find original tracks like "Dying Breed", "Today", and "Bottom Of The Sky". Elephant In The Room is the precursor to the upcoming album, Blind Elephant.
Gemstones revealed the new artwork for his upcoming project, Elephant In The Room, just now on his Facebook page and the fun fact that accompanies it - he drew it himself! He definitely has some art skills as well, as Gem sticks to the Road 2 Glory theme with this same style. No set date for the project's release, but we have heard a few previews at the office already, and we're all in store for somethin' special already. More news/music to come in the near future!
