Check out the trailer for "An Oversimplification of Her Beauty," an indie film directed by Terence Nance that screened at Sundance Film Festival last year, among other places. Apparently, along the festival circuit, it caught the attention of Jay-Z, who is now co-executive producing a version of the film for a wider release. Also note the score by glitch-hop mastermind Flying Lotus.
According to Pitchfork, "An Oversimplification of Her Beauty" is part animated, part live-action that "documents the relationship between Terence and a lovely young woman as it teeters on the divide between platonic and romantic." By the looks of the trailer, it could be a much-needed breath of fresh air for Hollywood.
For now, the only dates for screenings are April 26 at Cinema Village in NYC, or May 17 at Downtown Independent in LA. Hopefully this film will ride the wave of buzz into many more theaters sometime soon.
