Kid Cudi and Ice Cube brought the house down at Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View, CA. The Boost Mobile sponsored event traveled to three cities with the last one on Saturday, August 25th. A line of of 40 artists brought in a mixed bag of legends and rising stars. Both new and seasoned acts were featured.
Saturday's line-up featured performers such as Ice Cube, Salt-N-Pepa, Naughty by Nature, DMX, and tastes of the Wu-Tang Clan. Sunday followed with more legends such as Big Daddy Kane, Slick Rick, Nas, and Bone Thugs-n-Harmony.
New generation artists included Tyga, Kendrick Lamar, Mac Miller and Yelawolf. The time warp line up of artist gave concert go-ers an up front and personal view of where hip hop is going today (hehe pun intended). Two-day passes were the only tickets sold filtering out those not committed to the line up. With a 20,000+ expected audience, 11 hours, and two stages that party was bumping all weekend long.
Veterans stepped up there game. Naughty by Nature performed such hits including the pioneering hit "O.P.P.", while Salt-N-Pepa brought back more hits and kept the cown Push(ing)-it.
However, mixed feelings towards the new comers such as Mac Miller and Yelawolf whose performances left the crowd feeling a bit lack luster. Did they get cold feel amongst their hip hop idols. Do we even dare to compare them to the legends of the art.
The night was topped off by a fantastic performce from Kid Cudi, with a mindblowing sound to seal the deal mixing hip hop and countless other genres. There is hope for more pioneers of the game.
Alright, I'm a DMX fan for life. Longtime readers can probably sense that. I know there are people out there who's lost faith in Dark Man X as a relevant rapper over 10 years after his apex, but I'm still a believer. There are gems on every album and I believe we'll see some more on the oft-delayed upcoming album, Undisputed, now slated for September 11th. Take a look at the newly revealed artwork and tracklist. Let me add to the speculation of an unreleasedNotorious B.I.G. verse?! It's not fun not to root for that anyway. Hopefully it's not recycled. Other than B.I.G. and MGK on the album's first single "I Don't Dance", it's all X. So we'll know one way or another if the bark is back in less than a month... what do you all think? (shouts 2 HMV).
