Take a gander at the newly released colorway of the adidas D Rose 3 - the alternate away edition that features a black base with red, grey, and white accents around. I'm diggin' the placements of said accents and I think this alternate away version jumped to the top of my list for my next on-court shoe. This colorway will be available November 1st.
Last night, ESPN's 30 For 30 premiered the powerful tale of "Benji" - Ben Wilson, ranked the highest rated high school basketball player going into his senior year at Simeon High School (later Derrick Rose's alum). Wilson was sadly gunned down before the senior season started and it was a tragic end to a promising career that was felt not only in Chicago, but across the country in 1984. The documentary, directed by Coodie & Chike, not only tells the story to a new generation of people, but can also help illustrate and draw parallels to some of the same issues going on in our city, and the country, in 2012. Join me in watching above and for even more on the topic, read the magnificent article on Ben Wilson from the homie Scoop Jacksonhere.
#TheReturn has returned with episode 5 entitled DRIVE. Follow Derrick's journey back from a torn ACL and find out in this video what drives him. The answers are simple and admirable. Another well-done piece by adidas Basketball as seeing Derrick's progress and inner thoughts are once again fascinating.
Dubbed, “Chicago Fire” the bold and bright electricity-colored shoe is inspired by the Chicago Fire Department in Derrick’s hometown.
The upper is made of rubberized, heavy duty synthetic materials to resemble the strong, protective feel and function of a firefighter’s turnout coat. The three stripes on the back and outsole of the shoe are gray to represent the color of knee and elbow pads on turnout coats and coveralls. The stripes on the back are also reflective material similar to turnout gear, while the black SPRINTFRAME has a smooth, clean finish to signify rubber fire boots.
The inside of the left tongue features the universal cross symbol of firefighters with the D Rose logo in the middle, and the right shoe features a lasered Derrick Rose signature.
With the Bulls preseason starting tonight, adidas picks a perfect day to release one of what I'm sure are more colorways to come of the D Rose 3. I love how they continue to draw inspiration from the hometown and the fire department is surely a motivational one. The kicks will be available tomorrow, October 10th. Would you rock them?
This morning, adidas Basketball premieres their new TV commercial for their #TheReturn campaign surrounding Derrick Rose's comeback from a torn ACL, and, well, once again it's pretty epic. Chicago stayed in stunned silence as clips from TNT broadcaster Kevin Harlan and images from the moment of Rose's injury kick off the commercial. And while the reaction is a bit of a dramatization, it actually isn't too far off our personal experience at the office that day. About 30 of us were watching the announcement of the torn ACL and no one really spoke. Chilling. Rose's brother Reggie makes a cameo as well, in addition to various iconic Chicago locations where the spot was filmed. See the commercial above for yourself, a week before it premieres on televisions next week!
Episode 3 is here, and entitled Focus, as adidas follows around Derrick Rose this offseason as the physical and mental grind of rehab continues. As always, we see and hear Derrick's motivation as he reflects on when he even started playing basketball, and how this is the first time he's had to stop (in a sense) because of the injury. Love how this video drives home the importance of staying mentally focused on your goals; as Rose says, the hard work will pay off.
A couple fun moments in the video: Rose playing 2K12 as himself (which I would too if I was in the NBA) and this highest rated YouTube comment at the moment - "Another great episode but brushing your teeth with the water running, come on man." Hah! Enjoy.
A new father to be, Derrick Rose, has chimed in after an emotional talk at yesterday's AdiZero release and we could only love him that much more. He's in it for the kids.
"I can only imagine what parents have to go through. They have to find babysitters. I gotta believe that’s hard. You got parents with two or three kids and having to find stuff for all those kids, it’s messed up. I’m from here and riding around the neighborhood and seeing kids out at 12 p.m. when they’re supposed to be in school, it hurts you. For me, I’m going to have a kid. This is one of the reasons why I’m thinking about it. I hope they change it soon. I’m praying for them."
There seems to be a lot of biases about the CPS strikes. I'm not sure where to get the real fact eithersm but it can all be agreed upon that this mayhem needs to end and students need to get back to school immediately. Whether if you favor the teachers or Rahm Emanuel, these signs put to the test how creative our wonderful Chicago teachers really are... and then some were just low blows... Nickleback... really?
Piggybacking on Srirachana's post below, earlier today at the adiZero Rose 3 launch, there was an emotional moment where Derrick shed humble tears of reflection — both personally on what he and his family overcame growing up in Englewood, and with everything going on in our hometown (the crime and the CPS teachers strike which Rose tweeted on the other day) that we really feel Rose cares about. It was simply an incredible moment that epitomizes once again why Chicago roots so hard for one of their own, one who represents the city and one who rises above. Yup, adidas got it right: D. Rose will rise.
