Lupe Fiasco previews "Crack" featuring Chris Brown in D.C.
Last night, fans in the DMV at American University were the lucky first ones to get a preview of Lupe Fiasco's first single off the upcoming album, Tetsuo & Youth, as Lu concluded his set by playing a recording of the song's first verse and hook by Chris Brown.
The fan footage above does some justice as we can hear a clear dubstep influence in the beat, a rebellious Lupe, and some booming vocals from Breezy. Sounds pretty promising, I'm lookin' forward to this one.
An ambulance was called to The Record Plant studio in Hollywood around 1 a.m. this morning. No official word from Brown's representatives or the LA Fire Department, but unnamed sources told TMZ that Brown does have a childhood history of seizures.
Well this isn’t too much of a surprise. Today Chris Brown took to his Twitter to announce that his new album X might be his last album. As you know Chris Brown, who was once considered the boy-next-door, was involved in a tragic event with pop star Rihanna back in 2009. The event that took place has had long lasting ramifications on Chris’s career since. From being blacklisted by radio, MTV, VH1, and some music retail stores Chris career and sells to a huge blow. Chris Brown quickly became the modern Ike Turner to mainstream media. Where Rihanna on the other hand, had a new interest from the media into her personal life then ever before. As Rihanna’s star rose to new heights, Chris fell further then ever before. Since 2009 Chris Brown’s career has taken many setbacks due to some not so good decisions made on his part.
Personally I love Chris Brown and the many times I’ve been around him he was nothing but humble and genuinely sweet. Plus he is one of few stars who truly understands the concept that “you wouldn’t be where you are without the support of your fans.” It’s a shame that he’s come to this “possible” decision to call it quits. Yes the incident between him and Rihanna happened years ago, but that’s irrelevant. Stars such as Whitney Houston and Ike Turner prove that no matter what you do people will still talk even when you’re no longer here to defend yourself. They only thing Chris can do from here is to continue to conduct himself in a more mature manner, and accept that this stain on his career will always be there regardless. I think after this album a break would be great for Chris. Personally he should have taken one after the release of F.A.M.E. then came back around this time. Chris is extremely talented and I want nothing more then to see him win.
Although he’s recent material has been somewhat decent (excluding “Fine China” and “Don’t Think They Know”), I have faith that he can pull a monster hit if he moves past the generic dance-styled songs with thick auto-tune he’s put out in the past. Chris just needs to live his life and find new inspiration for his music. The last time he experimented with his sound was when he recorded and released F.A.M.E., “Trumpet Light,” and "Turn Up The Music” off Fortune. His new album X is set to arrive on August 26.
Originally posted by 5ABIOmaticearlier today, I had to bring this news to the top as Timbaland was pretty revealing in this sit-down with Revolt TV. He spilled a collab that us many of us salivating: "Sinatra In The Sands" — Nas featuring Jay Z & Justin Timberlake. Says, "Justin sounds like Frank Sinatra." Yup! Need this.
Also discussed: Timbaland's perspective on new Aaliyah music with Drake & Chris Brown. Here's the quote.
"It would never work... Cause Aaliyah music only work with its soulmate... which is me."
Timbaland wasn't sending any shots, and even went on to say some really positive things on Drake (whom he collabed with before, if you forgot). He also said that Missy Elliott was inspired by the Samsung commercial to make new music again. And Timbaland wants to continue finding out each other's artistry telling Jay, to essentially keep making music while we got that energy flowin. That's a "Gowhere You Love" moment right there! Watch the dope, quick-hit talk for all of Timbo's words himself above.
August 26th. Looks like he and Big Sean are droppin their albums on the same week. No doubt there are fans out there that would by both. To continue the hype, CB drops a copule previews of 'X' tracks "Something Special" and "Sex You Up" seen below.
As you can see from the tweet above, Chris Brown has a flurry of big names on his upcoming album, X, currently slated for July 16th (at this point though, I bet this gets pushed back). Confirmed producers also include Timbaland, Diplo, Polow Da Don, Danja, Pharrell, and Drumma Boy.
I'm encouraged by this quote in a recent interview with RollingStone:
"I tried to stay away from the Euro beats, and not go totally pop,” he told Rolling Stone. “Instead, I wanted to take the Quincy Jones approach. The record pays homage to the Stevie Wonders, the Michael Jacksons, the Sam Cookes. I wanted to put that classic essence of R&B and soul with the new age of music now."
- Chris Brown
"Fine China" is still a feel-good single for the summer so I hope for more songs that were successful in paying homage to the figures CB names above. We shall see sooner than later I'm sure.
