This weekend in College Station, Texas, Childish Gambino premiered a new song off the upcoming album just a couple weeks away, Because The Internet. The song is called "The Crawl" and from the preview above, sounds like a great one, possessing a nice female sample/vocalist on the chorus. Lookin' forward to digesting this one at CDQ soon enough.
In an interesting two-part interview, Childish Gambino joins Tim Westwood and talks about the upcoming album, Because The Internet, (as you'd expect) and shares some positive comments on Kanye, Drake, and Future. He says Kanye is a dope artist and that Drake and Future are two of the best writers of our generation.
Glover also has some thoughts on not wanting to make albums (and music consumption in general), the progression of live shows, and even renting out Chris Bosh's mansion for a period of time that became the setting for Clapping For The Wrong Reasons.
Donald Glover was Arsenio's guest last night and he took to his couch to premiere the newest track off Because The Internet called "Shadows". He recites the first verse right next to Arsenio, not moving from his interview below until halfway through the song where he joins the band. I like the sentiment towards a new breakup and the plea to talk with her again that becomes the theme of the song. The breakdown at the end was of high contrast to the rest of the song and I was honestly lukewarm on that. I think the studio version and more listens may make me come around fully though. Another nice track overall as this album is shaping up to be one I'll be buying on December 10th with the quality of these previews.
Alas, here's the interview with Arsenio as Glover talks about the Instagram notes, elaborating on a couple lines Arsenio asks him about (like the Tyrese one), why he's leaving Community, and what he wants in the future (totally agree with him on coding and 3D Printing...) Enjoy!
Childish Gambino adds a fresh verse to the already fresh "Relations", Kenna's single produced by Chad Hugo. This is the official remix with a music video on the way. Love all parties involved on this one — their sounds mix effortlessly.
I just bought Land 2 Air Chronicles II: Imitation is Suicide and it's real smooth. Cop that as well!
18. II. earth: The oldest computer (The last night) [feat. Azealia Banks]
19. III. life: The biggest troll (andrew auernheimer)
The three features: Chance The Rapper, Jhene Aiko, and Azealia Banks. The first two should come as no surprise, and perhaps the third one as well for any keen listener of "Centipede" for the "my wallet's Azealia" line (could mean Iggy, but Banks makes more sense). I'm excited for this album and have been impressed with the sound of the previews thus far (see: below). Plus, look at the structure of the album — this looks like an innovative book on tape CD.
Some speculation surrounds this new Childish Gambino track tonight, and it all stems from how he released it — via Twitter with the message "here @JheneAiko".
"Someone here gave all my love baby" is the cryptic hook on repeat and it may indicate Donald's true feelings for the hotly-rumored to be dating Jhene (although Gambino said recently with Rosenberg and Cipha Sounds that they're not dating).
Also, there is a fair amount of empty space; specifically once the instrumental (brilliantly) kicks up a notch after the first repetition of hooks. I'm also diggin' the influx of energy shortly after the three minute mark. h/t to the hometown producer Stefan Ponce. Whether it's finished or not, this version is already a wonderful record and if it is bolstered by singing from Aiko or rapping from Gambino or somebody else, then I'm all for that. Oddly enough, I'm all for this just being the version. Give it a listen/download above.
