Yesterday it leaked to the internet, today Because The Internet can be officially streamed on the, um, internet.
And after a day of sitting with it, I have a very favorable impression to what will be Childish Gambino's second album. The entire flow and production of the album is on another level as Gambino changes up his delivery — be it rapping or singing — throughout as well. Aside from the previously released singles like "3005", I find myself gravitating towards "Crawl", "Shadows", "No Exit", "Zealots Of Stockholm (Free Information)", "Pink Toes" f/ Jhene Aiko, and "Earth: The Oldest Computer (The Last Night)" f/ Azealia Banks. So yeah, that's a good amount of tracks instantly making the rotation, on top of more that are surely going to grow on me. You can cop the album next Tuesday, December 10th that also features, oh yeah, Chance The Rapper on yesterday's "The Worst Guys". Do yourself a favor and at least listen beforehand above.
Childish Gambino's Because The Internet has officially hit the internet and one of the collabs we were all anticipating was his next song with Chance The Rapper. Here's "The Worst Guys", which makes me want to photoshop them on Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg's The Other Guys. Ha!
All jokes aside, this one's sounding good — like the entire album in fact. "The Worst Guys" is solid and features a unique structure (thanks in large part to the guitar solo), but I have a feeling I'll be coming back to a handful of other tracks first (like "Crawl", "Zealots of Stockholm (Free Information)" and "Pink Toes" to name a few). I can't wait to sit with the album as a whole after one very favorable listen so far tonight. Because The Internet officially drops December 10th.
Catch up on the week that was in music on this festive Thanksgiving holiday! First, Eminem dropped a really cool visual for his well-liked 6 minutes of bars proclaiming himself the "Rap God". Watch that above and get in tune with some of the week's biggest songs below.
New B.o.B & Childish Gambino singles, a Pusha T feature on the debut single from Chicago singer Chris James, Joey Bada$$ over some unreleased J Dilla, and a standout from Trae Tha Truth's new mixtape, I Am King, featuring Lupe Fiasco. Enjoy!
Here's a new preview/leak off Because The Internet. "Sweatpants" f/ Problem has a nice me against the world type of chorus, but I don't vibe with it on the level as some of the other album previews thus far. (I really can't wait for the most recent one: "The Crawl")
Gambino had some tweets about the early leak of this one last night:
This weekend in College Station, Texas, Childish Gambino premiered a new song off the upcoming album just a couple weeks away, Because The Internet. The song is called "The Crawl" and from the preview above, sounds like a great one, possessing a nice female sample/vocalist on the chorus. Lookin' forward to digesting this one at CDQ soon enough.
In an interesting two-part interview, Childish Gambino joins Tim Westwood and talks about the upcoming album, Because The Internet, (as you'd expect) and shares some positive comments on Kanye, Drake, and Future. He says Kanye is a dope artist and that Drake and Future are two of the best writers of our generation.
Glover also has some thoughts on not wanting to make albums (and music consumption in general), the progression of live shows, and even renting out Chris Bosh's mansion for a period of time that became the setting for Clapping For The Wrong Reasons.
Donald Glover was Arsenio's guest last night and he took to his couch to premiere the newest track off Because The Internet called "Shadows". He recites the first verse right next to Arsenio, not moving from his interview below until halfway through the song where he joins the band. I like the sentiment towards a new breakup and the plea to talk with her again that becomes the theme of the song. The breakdown at the end was of high contrast to the rest of the song and I was honestly lukewarm on that. I think the studio version and more listens may make me come around fully though. Another nice track overall as this album is shaping up to be one I'll be buying on December 10th with the quality of these previews.
Alas, here's the interview with Arsenio as Glover talks about the Instagram notes, elaborating on a couple lines Arsenio asks him about (like the Tyrese one), why he's leaving Community, and what he wants in the future (totally agree with him on coding and 3D Printing...) Enjoy!
