The Wu Tang Clan's legendary weirdo Ol' Dirty Bastard is getting resurrected in more ways than one. In May, we heard about him getting the hologram treatment at Rock the Bells this year, and now we have more good news. According to Wu member Inspectah Deck, RZA is sitting on a stockpile of unreleased material from Ason Unique, some of which might be featured on the next Wu Tang album, "A Better Tomorrow." The album was expected to be out this summer, but apparently now is aiming for a November release, to coincide with the 20th anniversary of "Enter the 36 Chambers". Said Masta Killa on the latest material:
“All I can tell you is that we’re striving for that first essence, that first sound of Wu-Tang, that first voice, that first everything."
Having ODB back in the mix may make things sound like old times again, but we certainly know that's no longer the case, thanks to lots of infighting and disagreement lately between certain members. Could this just be a pipe dream, or will we really hear ODB be brought back to life with this new album? I guess we will have to wait until November to find out.
Masta Killa, Method Man and Ghostface Killah all deliver verses on the slick 1st single off the upcoming 20-year reunion album for the Wu-Tang called A Better Tomorrow. The only thing that detracts from the single so far is the "Yes!" chants in the chorus, just because I thought that it was a pop up ad somewhere when I first played it. But I like those chants and think that I'll get used to those. All in all, it's more of what we like from Wu and an instant *Tibs Fav.
Radio rip for now, with Peter Rosenberg unveiling the track on Hot 97 first (06.04.13).
