This is always an exciting time of the year. The refreshing Fall weather always cools down a sizzling summertime Chi. Football season is underway (and the Bears are good). TV Season is transitioning from finales (like Breaking Bad and Dexter) to the start of new seasons. And, what takes precedence over all of the above: the NBA is right around the corner!
An annual sign of basketball's return is the release of our hometown hero Derrick Rose's new signature shoe with adidas. The #DRose4 was revealed in grandiose fashion here in Chicago yesterday at the United Center as D. Rose was back home to showcase the shoe to thousands of Chicago youth. We'll have more coverage coming from the event today. This post is purely about the #DRose4 shoe.
The away and home editions were released as the customary Bulls color scheme of black, red, and white were mixed for these versions that Rose will be wearing on the court upon his long-awaited return.
The #DRose4 — Away
As you'll notice, the signature three stripes are on the back heel and there is an abrupt contrast in materials and color between the heel and the forefront of the shoe. After seeing this in person, I can attest that this contrast looks great from far away and give the #DRose4 a unique feature for any casual basketball fan watching the Bulls this year. While it's distinctive, the Bulls color scheme doesn't make it too flashy. Overall, the #DRose4 aestetically possesses a nice balance of unique features, materials, and color placements. I'm excited to see five other colorways to be released throughout the year.
The #DRose4 — Home
For more information on the technology behind the #DRose4 visit adidas.com and you can cop the shoe and Rose's new collection on October 10th (the shoe retails for $140).
Lastly, we're a big fan of the creative process and so it was also great to see adidas unveiling three sketches of the Rose 4 in development. Take a look at these behind the scenes photos and even more on our tumblr, where we also gave you a sneak peak of photos from yesterday's event at the United Center. More photos and video to come!
Yesterday I had the privilege of watching Chicago's top basketball recruits scrimmage at NBA player Will Bynum's Annual Basketball Camp and what I witnessed was a whole lot of skill, fun, and dedication to the game. The camp, running from yesterday until Wednesday, is held in the southside at Chicago State University and includes the top youth recruits from grades 8-11.
As you may or may not know, Will Bynum currently plays for the Detroit Pistons, but by hosting these camps has dedicated his life to basketball in a way that is unique from other players. Not only do these kids do drills and participate in scrimmages, but also there are sessions throughout the day that focus on a range of topics including nonviolence, nutrition, anti-bullying, public speaking, etc. Students attending the event have often already begun to be scouted by colleges so Bynum's perspective truly benefits these individuals who also want to dedicate their lives to the game.
While the camp continues today, tomorrow will be extremely exciting as the signing of an anti-violence bill for the City of Chicago will take place at noon in CSU's Jones Convocation Center. Rumor has it that there will be some special guests in attendance as well so we're really looking forward to that!

Dubbed, “Chicago Fire” the bold and bright electricity-colored shoe is inspired by the Chicago Fire Department in Derrick’s hometown.
The upper is made of rubberized, heavy duty synthetic materials to resemble the strong, protective feel and function of a firefighter’s turnout coat. The three stripes on the back and outsole of the shoe are gray to represent the color of knee and elbow pads on turnout coats and coveralls. The stripes on the back are also reflective material similar to turnout gear, while the black SPRINTFRAME has a smooth, clean finish to signify rubber fire boots.
The inside of the left tongue features the universal cross symbol of firefighters with the D Rose logo in the middle, and the right shoe features a lasered Derrick Rose signature.
With the Bulls preseason starting tonight, adidas picks a perfect day to release one of what I'm sure are more colorways to come of the D Rose 3. I love how they continue to draw inspiration from the hometown and the fire department is surely a motivational one. The kicks will be available tomorrow, October 10th. Would you rock them?
