It's no secret: rappers want to be ballers and ballers want to be rappers. Where we dive further into this today is about rap's fascination with former Georgetown Hoya, Charlotte Hornet, and Miami Heat all-star center Alonzo Mourning.
In fact, the audio above is something I would be curious to see more of with other subjects — a brilliant, well-edited 2.5 minute stream of Alonzo Mourning line after Alonzo Mourning line, dating back to 1993. What this proves to me is that your favorite rapper likely rapped about leaving a girl in the "mourning like Alonzo" after a one-night stand, inadvertently saying Alonzo Mourning did the same thing when they were just trying to play on words. A couple of my favorite uses of Alonzo Mourning were a couple more modern ones: Chamillionaire and a young Childish Gambino, so keep your ears peeled for them as well. Shouts to my main man up in Minnesota, Jose, for sending this my way. He knows my love of hip hop and random sports references well, ha!
As if this post couldn't get more entertaining, why not keep it Charlotte Hornet related? I stumbled upon this video of the unveiling of the Charlotte Hornets uniforms in 1988 via the best daily NBA podcast out, TBJ, last week. And you'll have fun picking out one favorite moment of many in just over one minute.
