XXL Freshman RapFix Live Freestyle

Yesterday's MTV RapFix had a jam-packed show with guests French Montana and Fat Joe flanked by four freshman (yup, that alliteration was on purpose) — Action Bronson, Logic, Travi$ Scott, and Dizzy Wright. Those four proceeded to spit 30 seconds of quick-hitting bars to conclude the show. You could tell the "no cursing" rule messed up Action's rhymes, but he begun things pretty well. Logic was the best with his slick rhymes and the "p" alliteration I wish there was more of (that was fire). The first half of his rhymes were a written? No matter though, because he spit those raps confidently, which was what I was felt was lacking with Travi$ and Dizzy afterward. Maybe it's just their energy in general but both of them had a lifeless delivery that didn't match the energy of Logic's or of the environment and beat in general. Just a one-time critique though for me personally; not gonna let that carry over into my interpretation of their future music. What did you guys think?!

Weekend Roundup: De La Soul, Mario & Nicki Minaj, and more

Here is a dope new weekend roundup of a variety of news and tidbits that happened amongst all the #YeezySeason mania that is going on, hah!

First off, up above, De La Soul performed live with The Roots on Jimmy Fallon. Above is the feel-good "A Rollerskating Jam Named Saturdays" and "Jenifa Taught Me" can be viewed here. De La's got a new album coming out (!) entitled You're Welcome, slated for this Fall.

An intriguing upcoming collab was announced — Mario & Nicki Minaj! Mario revealed the single on the way, produced by Polow Da Don, via a handwritten note from the heart (seen below). May 21st, you can expect to hear this.

The day before (i.e. tomorrow), T.I. will release his new single with Lil Wayne "Wit Me". You can catch the teaser trailer from last Friday here and peep the new single art below.

And below that, you'll notice the tracklist to Ludacris' upcoming mixtape, IDGAF. There's plenty of big-name features on the 10-track opus, set to be released May 24th. Whew! How bout that for some quick-hit news?!

Wait, one late addition: Action Bronson tweeted a collab project with Harry Fraud called Saab Stories will be impacting early June.

From Mario himself: "Somebody Else" f/ Nicki Minaj drops Tuesday, May 21st

T.I. "Wit Me" f/ Lil Wayne single and music video drops tomorrow, May 20th!

Alex Wiley pays homage to the famous Icky Shuffle from former Bengals star Icky Woods with this new track off #ClubWiley featuring Action Bronson and produced by Thelonious Martin. Love the reference, hah! I think Wiley kills it with the fast flow and delivery and enjoyed his rhymes a little more than the more well-known Bronson. Lookin' forward to #ClubWiley dropping through Closed Sessions on June 4th.

This was originally released earlier this week on the XXL Freshman '13 mixtape, and now liberated in CDQ/No Tags form by Pro Era and listed for the upcoming EP, Summer Knights.

I dig the jazzy production, not totally vibing with all of the content, but Bada$$ continues to impress with his flow and delivery. I liked him more than Bronson on this one. What do you all think?

Off the upcoming mixtape, The Recipe Vol. 2, Chicago's ProbCause gets a couple of his biggest features to date in Action Bronson and Chance The Rapper.

I think he outshines 'em both (albeit Chance in a close second). I liked Prob's fast pace and how he switched things up amidst his verse. A nice one for the roto.
