We used to stop at that place for gas every weekend in the early 70 s. It was cleald Ethel's , and run by a 90-something year old woman. Her husband had died years earlier, and she kept the place going as a single pump station. Pumped the gas, too.It was one of those places that looked deserted when you pulled in, but eventually Ethel would meander out. I'm pretty sure my dad was just checking on her, as there was no way we needed gas after about 15 miles, every Sunday.
