Had to spotlight this standout track from The Boy Illinois' new mixtape, Jean Baptiste, that just dropped moments ago.
"1818" is the intro track and a fitting ear-grabber that showcases Illi's versatility. His rhymes feature a mix of clever one-liners with lyrical depth — all with a smooth flow and clear delivery to further engage you. I also dig the simple, yet powerful production that sets the tone for the rest of the tape too.
And for those who don't know, 1818 is the year that Jean Baptiste Point du Sable passed away. He was the first permanent resident of Chicago and now the namesake for Illi's tape. Consider this the preview to reel you in to the full tape, once again now available here.

"Initiation is the process by which we turn from our natural inclination to remain unconscious and decide that whatever it takes — suffering, striving, enduring — we will pursue conscious union with the deeper mind, the wild self."
