The Weeknd is currently my favorite up and coming artist right now, and so it's a wonderful surprise to have found the above creative video mixtape mashup by Deaupe! Why is The Weeknd my favorite artist right now? I think it all goes back to my previous post of expressing an elegant balance between the masculine and feminine aspects within ourselves. I find both men and women loving the "House of Balloons" album, as it courageously expresses an originality of artistic expression.
Why is it courageous? I think it's courageous because he chose to make the music however he wanted, rather than trying to fit an already made niche or system. When we are in balance, we say "I don't give a fuck — I'm making this how I want, because this is who I am!" This refreshing feeling of freedom then resonates with all others who can automatically feel the authenticity. Success is doing you. Anyway below is a note from Deaupe about the video:
A few months ago, after I heard the mixtape, me and my buddy Fabio came up with an idea to shoot a 'video mixtape', our visual interpretation of the mixtape. No budget. No money, just the love for music and videography. Since we actually never heard of 'video tapes' (don't even know what to call it, haa!), we just went with the flow and actually learned a lot during the process. The mix was made by DJ Fullscale, thanks a million! I also want to thank Hakim and Sanne for giving up their free time to help out with this project!
