The Atlantic: Rap's Long History of 'Conscious' Condescension to Women

"Bitch bad, woman good/Lady better, they misunderstood."

Raps been known for exploiting women, but Lupe Fiasco has gone against the grain in his new single "Bitch Bad."  Lyrically unimpressive, Lupe's new single takes a step in the right direction but falls short.

Is exploiting women what sells and being kind to women boring?

Though degrading at times, Rap lyrics are to be taken with a grain of salt. Hyperbolic lyrics are what sells but should only be seen as an "artistic expression", not a lifestyle.

The Atlantic explores the history of the portayal of women from Tupac's epic "Brenda's Got a Baby" to Lupe's "Bitch Bad" in their most recent article.

Bitch Bad was a dope song, of course Lupe didn't pull out any flashy metaphors or similes but i think the message that was there allowed him to get away with that. Overall a great song!

These 'artistic impressions' have an effect on lifestyle...a bad one... What lupe says is right ..even though not many similies and metaphors, it is a gr8 songs... The lyrics are pretty good... Lupe uses a different technique here... He makes a song with a title and style similar to those songs that degrade women and attacks back...its a gr8 song and the video is touching....
