Just a few weeks ago, Team Gowhere and myself took a road trip down to Austin, Texas for its annual music festival South by SouthWest. It was my first time personally actually attending the event and was excited to see what SXSW had to offer. I always heard that it was hundreds of artists from around the world that performed there, but did not realize the truth behind the statement until I actually witnessed for my own eyes. When you actually reach the downtown area of Austin my eyes were opened to many different cultures of people all for the love of music. Not just Americans but Brazilians, Canadians, Nigerians, and many more. It amazes me how music can bring so many different cultures together. Musicians such as Prince, Justin Timberlake, Kid Cudi, and Kendrick Lamar were some of the hundreds of artists that many wanted to see during the weeklong festival.

Also, SXSW bought you many different major companies together to promote new products such as Doritos, Beats by Dre, and Samsung. Doritos had one of the dopest venues of the major company with the stage and a top of it was about a 2000’ screen. By far the best was Beats by Dre with its newest product the Pill. It was located inside of the Viceland venue; as you waited to get inside of the doctors awaited you outside to tell you a little bit about the product. Once in awaited you were beautiful nurses with an iPad to register you to see a doctor. The vibe of it was a laid back one with music and complementary drinks plus a photo booth. Beats by Dre took advantage of its star power with many artists stopping by like Pusha T, Kendrick Lamar, Bun B, and more.

SXSW had too many shows to actually attend in one week but it was a few that I went to that were some of the best I’ve ever seen. One show was The Source showcase that featured artist such as Trae the Truth, Schoolboy Q, and Wyclef Jean. It was crazy to have this type of star power one building. It was Trae the Truth first time back at SXSW in about 3 to 4 years so he bought a crazy energy to the stage. Plus it’s not every day you get to see Wyclef Jean perform with his guitar and great stage presence. Another show was the BET Music Matters showcase which featured acts such as BJ the Chicago Kid, Joey Badass, Chrisette Michele, and T.I. BET gave you a range of different music from R&B, Soul, and Hip-Hop and it blended great. T.I. came out and showed why the Troubled Man is one of the best in the business. It was good to see one of Chicago’s own get some shine on the stage and show why BJ the Chicago Kid is next to blow out of the city of wind. Lastly, the venue Viceland had events going on the whole weekend and on Saturday night they had Action Bronson and Kendrick Lamar headlining. It was my first time hearing Action Bronson and he really opened my eyes to his music with his silk rhymes and powerful delivery. Kendrick owned the week at SXSW and showed it by having the best performance of the week. Bringing out TDE members Jay Rock and Schoolboy Q they brought the house down. Kendrick gave his fan a show that they would not forget that night songs like "MAAD City", "ADHD", and "Bitch Don’t Kill My Vibe" had them rocking their hands and heads all night long.

SXSW also bought together us as the Gowhere team seeing that we are all from different sides and places in the city of Chicago. Going to shows with the team really brought us together as a family. One of the best showcases us as a team went to was Fader Fort it was a genuinely good time. The many different nights whether it was someone getting into an accident (LOL) or getting a little too drunk at a show we really grew as a family and were one of the best crews and hip hop sites at SXSW this year. It was the perfect environment for us to grow and also get dope videos of Kid Cudi, Kendrick Lamar, and Wyclef Jean. SXSW was one the best festival I've ever been too and must say see you again next year and many years to come — Gowhere You Love.
