Here comes a brand NEW, original track from Trey Songz - a sure-fire R&B hit with a captivating beat from Kendrick “WyldCard” Dean (B. Cox’s protegé, I believe)! The lyrics illustrate a nice story, not about a relationship, rather about real-life issues with lines like, “For every father that walks out / there’s a daddy that loves his child” and “Fine young man / off to war / don’t understand what he fighting for / yet he reports / obeys his call of duty and fights for his countraayyy”. Damn, this is a song I’ve had on repeat ever since I DLed it and like Usher’s “Hush” (also added the artwork @ the very bottom) from earlier in the week, it is a meaningful R&B song that not only R&B fans will certainly enjoy, but also the casual listener. So the CLEAN version of The Game’s upcoming album, L.A.X., leaked out 2day and above, u can DL 3 more trax (scroll for the Ludacris collabo below) all featuring some big names like Common, Nas, & Ne-Yo! None of the trax are all that special on 1st few listens, but they are also all real solid. Not feelin’ the “Angel” beat and Game’s constant name-dropping, which is more annoying than clever most of the time, but it is some trax the hip hop fan would likely enjoy! Another one they would enjoy is the latest from The Cool Kids as “Pennies” maintains that deep bass sound of the duo and contains many more NBA references than usual, which I really liked of course. And before I forget, the NBA’s DeShawn Stevenson recently made a video of him and his buddy lip synching 2 Usher’s “Love In This Club”! As a fan of DeShawn’s hilarious antics, this video is another illustration of the goofiness of DeShawn Stevenson as he doesn’t disappoint throughout, especially in his lil’ grand finale, hahaha (btw, that beard is still growin, haha!) Big ups 2 my boy Yoox for the sending.. more big ups goes 2 our affs, 2dopeboyz & lupEND for the audio, the latter being responsible for the 2 NEW Shayla G trax (from FNF) as “Crazy” is an interesting one I like - kinda weird, but that’s what makes the song unique and I like that about the track. There are also some behind the scenes and live performance videos that u can peep below f/ Ludacris, Chris Brown, T.I., & Swizz Beatz as well! Enjoy!
For this installment of Old School Sundays, check out a track from 2005 by the first lady of Lupe’s FNF record label - Shayla G! She’s another Chicago rapper who brings it with a hard edge and witty lyrics. The first verse is a perfect illustration of her unique style, flow, and wordplay (and I personally love the Chris Farley reference.. I loved him). So definitely peep what the talented 1st & 15th record label has 2 offer if u are unfamiliar with Shayla G. Get familiar with her because we should be getting some NEW music from Shayla G, later in the week. Also, big ups 2 our friend KayCee for an exciting opportunity for our Chicago readers with a Lollapalooza after party that everyone is invited 2 on August the 3rd (next Sunday). Ok, so I’ve been listenin’ 2 this in the car and at the comp all nite… SICK! Gem brings it on every track and u can tell the transformation from Gemini 2 GemStones on the very first track with a couple verses over the ridiculous “Free Chilly” beat from Lupe Fiasco’s The Cool. Every track has something meaningful behind it, covering a various amount of topics - life’s experiences, social analysis, relationship issues, etc. You can’t ask for much more if you want to be enlightened through music and the mixtape, mind you this is only the MIXTAPE, really touches the listener and provokes their own analysis… and on the first listen also! GemStones is one of the few artists who grabs me with his lyrics on the very first listen and that’s what I was trying to look for 2nite. His passion and talent is undeniable and before you know it, you’ll be hearing GemStones’ name a lot more in the public, further progressing the FNF movement and impact of the city of Chicago on the world! There’s too many Tibs Favs to list on here, but some of the trax that were never previously posted, that u have GOT to have… “I Love Her”, “A Song To You”, “Free Chilly”, “Fly Away”, “When I Get On”, “Superstar” (his version w/ Matthew Santos) and well, I can keep going. Bottom line: awesome mixtape 2 the Fahrenheit series and if this is how hot the mixtape is, I can’t wait 2 see how Troubles Of The World - GemStones’ debut album coming this year? - will turn out!
