Check out the latest hot freestyle from another up and coming rapper outta the Chi: S-Preme! He goes hard over the classic, “Can’t Tell Me Nothin’” from Kanye West, with some ridiculous lyrics and references to the old Mighty Ducks movies, Pharrell, and even George Costanza! It really is worth the DL to catch some of these lines that you’ll have to rewind a couple times in order to catch them all (and the shoutouts 2 the GWHH fam.. yessurr!). Preme’s workin’ on more heat and the next Sicktape so keep it locked at Gowhere Hip Hop for the latest from this upcoming artist. Down below, some mainstream heat comin’ from the likes of T.I., Akon, Mrs. Carter, & MORE, including some nice StarGate productions. Don’t forget 2 peep the nice requested track from G.O.O.D. Music’s Mr. Hudson (of Kanye West “Paranoid” fame) as it’s a unique and mellow track from the talented U.K. artist. Enjoy!
Above is the incredibly inspirational speech from Lupe Fiasco that the GWHH Fam was able 2 see in person at the Congress Theatre in Chicago on Halloween night! If you recall, I described the speech and it’s profound effect on myself and the Chicago audience in our GWHH REVIEW and this is a video of that speech! Down below, we got some spectacular performance pictures of Lupe & Co. as well as the GWHH Fam w/ GemStones & KayCee! Shouts 2 S-Preme, LA, Mr. Music, Max G., KayCee, KDenise, & Sean (for the heads-up on the vid)! Much love 2 ya’ll.

GWHH is proud to present yet another EXCLUSIVE interview with our main man Mr. Music! Every exclusive single he’s been a part of was a successful one! You may remember him from the numerous authentic singles/beats he’s made, the GWHH ‘Return of the MC’ contest beat, and other collabos with GWHH artists S-Preme and LA! Mr. Music is a producer, artist, lyricist, and visionary. He can see/hear what works, making sure the end product is always a hot one! I’m sure everyone is wondering who this talented Chicagoan is, so it’s my pleasure to release this interview about the next big name out of the Chi - Mr. Music!
GWHH: So how exactly did you come up with the name, “Mr. Music“?
Mr. Music: That’s a good question, it actually happened on accident, but I wanted a name that represented me both as a producer and an artist, and that name fit perfectly.I was doing some graphic design work, and I noticed the words “mr” and “music” on the screen, they weren’t combined or anything, they were just in random sentences. So I thought, why not put em together, and I got Mr. Music. The reason why I feel that it fits me well is because I do everything on my own, musically. It’s hard to say this without coming off arrogant or cocky, but I feel like I exemplify music from all angles. I make my own beats, produce, sing, rap, come up with my own concepts for songs, write my own lyrics, edit my songs, mix, engineer all my own stuff, and do many of those things for my artists too. The only major musical element, at least in regards to hip-hop music, which I don’t have, is the ability play an array of instruments, other the piano/keyboard, but I’d love to learn how to play others, and intend to do so, as my music career progresses.
GWHH: So Music, what type of equipment do you use to make all your stuff and do you go to a studio to get everything done?
Mr. Music: Actually, I work out of my home, sometimes the garage. Basically, I use FL Studio 8, Acid Pro 6, and then I gotta buncha M-Audio stuff like my KRK RP-5’s, Fast Track Pro sound card, KeyStudio 25 keyboard and the Sterling Audio ST55 condenser mic. I gotta pretty old computer too, but I replace parts every so often to keep it running. Essentially, I bought all that stuff so that I could do everything from home and not have to worry about relying or paying anyone for anything. I’m really a perfectionist when it comes to my stuff. I’m involved in every step of the process.
GWHH: Yeah, well that actually brings me to my next question, you produce a lot of great records, what in your opinion is the definition of a producer?
Mr. Music: To me, a producer is the individual who makes the record from the earliest phase of just the idea, concept, lyric, beat, what have you- to the point of where the song is fully done.A lot of people have it twisted and they think that if they make beats, they produce records. That’s not how it works. If you make beats and you sell them or give em away…cool, you’re a Beatmaker. A real producer and a good producer not only makes the beat but should be involved in every single phase, every step of the way till the record is complete. i.e. a producer makes a beat, has a concept/idea for the song, has an artist in mind, writes the song or helps the artist write the song from start to finish, records the artist, gives direction to the artist on how to rap/sing, how to sound, what sounds good, what doesn’t, mixes down or helps mix the vocals, all the editing that takes place after the vocal recording is done, mixing the beat down, etc. Man, the list continues, it can go on and on, a producer has many responsibilities and that’s why you see greats like Dre, Kanye, and Timbaland constantly stay up in the game, cuz they know and understand the fundamentals of producing and putting out a hit record, plus they got like 10 others people to help them do all that stuff, whereas I either only got myself or Karma if we’re working on a joint record.
GWHH: When you start working on a song, where do you start? Do you make the beat first or come up with the lyrics?
Mr. Music: It could be either or. Everyone works differently. A lot of the times, I start with the beat, cuz that’s where my inspiration comes from…directly, from the actual music.I’ll come up with a melody and a drumbeat, just lay a foundation down for the beat, and if at the instant I come up with some idea for the concept of the track, I quickly record some rough vocals before I forget, cuz when that one little moment comes to you… man, you have to act upon it right away, cuz that could be the “it” factor for whether you make a hot record or not.Sitting down with a pen and a pad may not always work, sometimes you just gottta get on the mic and put out all your ideas on the table, so to speak. And for some, who let’s say, don’t have the privilege of having a mic of their own at home, buy a digital voice recorder, or use your cell phone, record voice notes. I’m constantly putting down voice notes, writing lyrics, concepts and ideas of songs into my Blackberry. (That’s my small plug for blackberry! haha) …but I mean, there’s so many creative ways to get started on a record. Recently, I been working off my artist LA. He’ll come up with a hot line or a hot concept, like just the most basic idea, and then rap it or sing it…and I’ll just make the beat from scratch. That’s how we made songs like “The Journey” actually.Dude is really up there in terms of his music game; he just feels music, the same way I do, that’s why we work so well together. That’s my guy, man.
Mr. Music: Umm, that’s a tough one. I mean aside from the local producers that I personally know and have met or worked with, there aren’t any big-time producers that I’m affiliated with, so it’s tough to compare myself to that caliber of producers, cuz I don’t know how they are, but if I were to compare myself to producers generally, I would say my work ethic, me being a perfectionist, and my genuine love for making music separates me from others overall. I work hard on making everything sound as good as it can. Not settling for just the “okay,” if there’s a wack line in the song, I’ll sit there and re-write it for hours and hours. If there’s something off in the beat, I’ll re-do it till it’s perfect. I can’t put out something that I’m not happy with because if I ain’t happy with it and I don’t like it, then I feel like no one else will, and even if they do, if something doesn’t sit well with me about a record, it’ll still bug me. So I put in a lot of effort and time into my music because it’s truly what I love to do. It was never my intention to do music because I wanna get fame or insane amounts of money to the point where I end up buying 10 maserati’s haha. I just love making music, every record I do gives me happiness that I can’t really get anywhere else and my desire never fades. I want to make more and more and more, never wanna stop, not until I have so many records that you lose track of them and can only name a fourth of the work I’ve done.
GWHH: Where do you get your inspiration when working on your music?
Mr. Music: Man, I get my inspiration from a lot of things. I know that’s cliché to say, but it’s the truth. For my music, as far as the melodies and beats go, a lot of times I get inspired from listening to other records. Like current hip-hop/rn’b joints, or older 80’s stuff, you know I’ll listen to other genre’s of music like jazz, classical, chill out trance, international stuff and something might come one there, that’ll trigger an idea for a new beat/song….or I’ll be watching TV and an infomercial will pop up, with a little jingle in the background, if I like the melody, then I’ll jump on the keys and start building off that, make something happen. In regards to lyrics and song concepts, I get inspired mainly from my own life, my own experiences, and that of others. Sometimes a conversation I might have had with a friend may inspire me to write and make a song, or really anything that happens on a daily basis, I try to be as attentive as I can and pick up on little details that may turn into song concepts or ideas for the future.
GWHH: What advice would you give to new artists & producers?
Mr. Music: Keep on your grind. If you love what you do, and you believe in yourself, stay up. If you’re a singer, keep working on your voice, if you’re a producer; keep working on your beats. Don’t ever quit because of someone else not believing in you or supporting you, and don’t let people tell you that your dream is unrealistic. It’s always smart to have a backup plan, you know? There’s that saying “don’t put all your eggs in one basket,” but I think anyone that works hard, anyone that has talent, and a desire as well as the motivation to make music can get a lot accomplished.
GWHH: Where do you see Mr. Music in the next year?
Mr. Music: Well, obviously I aim to see myself and my team gets signed to a major record label, producing for myself, my artists, and others. That’s the goal of every day. Not just a “next year” type of thing. Truth is, I’d like to get signed as soon as possible, right this minute, I’d wanna be doing it on that level, and I’m ready for it. I been doing it for a while now, and I know I got it. So I definitely see myself putting out more tracks, hotter and better tracks, more innovative tracks, working with newer artists and other producers, and branching out to other avenues that I haven’t gone to yet.
So there ya have it! Make sure you check out all of Mr. Music’s tracks here if you didn’t get them all yet, and be sure to check this coming Monday’s new Mr. Music related release! If you want to contact Mr. Music you can email him at mr.musicfans@gmail.com.
Just in time for Halloween 2morrow, S-Preme & fellow collaborator/producer, H. Bomb, come thru with a ridiculous track that sets the mood for the ‘holiday’ perfectly! It all starts with the strong, eerie, and also catchy beat! Effects are added nicely throughout the professionally produced track 2 further enhance the dark theme. H. Bomb comes thru on a real nice chorus, with his voice acting as a perfect compliment 2 the lyrics he spits and 2 S-Preme’s Chicago style. As you should expect from now if you are a frequent GWHH visitor, S-Preme combines a ridiculous, fast Chicago flow and twist with clever lines that really makes his tracks stand out in hip hop! Enjoy!
“Boogz with the beat.. S-Preme with the heat! Hah!”. S-Preme’s statement rings true at the beginning of this Chicago banger! He rips a captivating chorus showin’ our hometown some love throughout his ridiculous verses. Most of all, it is S-Preme’s versatile Chicago flow that shines brightest on this track, switching up depending on the lyrics at times. The listener has 2 have an attentive ear 2 catch all the words, but clarity isn’t an issue because no matter how fast S-Preme is going, u can still understand word for word, even w/ some Chicago twist in there as well! Can’t wait 2 bump this throughout the city as Chicagoans will surely eat this track up, but hip hop heads in general have no choice but to respect S-Preme’s skills. Down below, a batch of solid, NEW trax featuring Q-Tip, a hot Mos Def snippet, and my boy Montell Jordan, among others. Don’t forget 2 peep the Musiq SoulChild/MJB video premiere as well! Enjoy!
12:25PM CT: Added 3 more solid trax f/ The Game, Chicago’s Mic Terror, & Craig David!
We have a WINNER of our 1st OFFICIAL Jabbistyle and this longtime GWHH fan and Jabbifyer, limrik, outlasted Dj MiniMaxX and Ronald 2 earn the title! (Peep the RECAP here!) Coincidentally, it is also his birthday 2day, so GWHH wishes u a happy 1! But he didn’t win because of his birthday, he won because of the dopeness that follows (especially the end, which cemented his 1st place vote from S-Preme & myself).

The NEXT Jabbistyle will be BATTLE style and will be scheduled sometime this week! Stay tuned for that announcement!
So if you are one of our many returning (or maybe first-time) GWHH visitors, you had 2 have noticed our unique, one of a kind live chat feature, Jabbify, in the lower right hand corner of the page. On the daily, we are able 2 interact with you the visitors and talk hip hop, politics, sports… or even freestyle! In the past month, 2 of our biggest fans - limrik and the next Chicago rapper on the come-up, S-Preme - ignited an impromptu “Jabbistyle”, where they just freestyled in Jabbify and kept going back and forth between each other, and at times Max G., Jabbify co-creator Brian, and myself. It was such a hit that people kept comin’ in and joining and above all it was a lot of fun. So 2morrow night, after the 3rd and final presidential debate, log on 2 GWHH at 10PM CENTRAL time (U.S.), we will be hosting the 1st OFFICIAL Jabbistyle! The rules are as follows:
Log in on GWHH with a unique username and be ready to type fast.
DL the Kanye West “Love Lockdown” INSTRUMENTAL above and we’ll be using the above beat 2 inspire our Jabbistyles. The assumed theme is obviously love, but it can really be about anything.. whatever the beat inspires.
Max G. or myself will moderate the Jabbistyle and users will have ONE minute to type their Jabbistyle.
S-Preme and I will be 2 of the 3 judges and will NOT be participating. The third judge will be the fans. A post with a recap of all the users’ Jabbistyles will be posted shortly after the competition and visitors will have one day to vote on whose Jabbistyle was the best.
Final scores will be tallied with each of the 3 judges giving 3 points to the best Jabbistyle, 2 points for 2nd best, and 1 point for 3rd best. The user with the highest amount of points wins!
The prize will be… pride, for now. The 1st EVER GWHH Jabbistyle Champion is quite a title 2 boast, perhaps even put on a resumé. We’ll see how smoothly this goes and perhaps offer more than just pride for the next Jabbistyle competition.
**Here’s how our last, unofficial Jabbistyle went down**
“I picked up the name limrik from the northwest burbs/ a jdm honda but my wheels don’t feel the curbs/ dunks and high-tops, so fresh and so clean/ my shiet is exclusive, my backpack’s LV, my flow’s like fluid, but yours is like aluminum/ in my leetest talk possible, i pwn noobs like you and ummmm…./ by that i mean, youre flow’s too static/ i’m cool with they gays, but you, you’re just a faggot/ when my album drops in stores, you’re the first to have it/ admit it, you’re more than a fan, you’re a limrik fanatic/ abd y’all better watch out for my gowhere flow/ we need a black-fisted prez so we know where to go/ words blacklisted on chat so i gotta swear slow/ everyone askin the same question where the fuuuuuuck did gowhere go?”
- limrik 09.24.08
“ok…hondas cool but the MC better, 22 inches MC rides better, do you see what i did there with the letters? an MC drives an MC…better! you don’t wanna bet when my lips unlock, what i spit hella sick, when my shiit gon drop? the question on the lips of the hoes, they all wanna get on my hose, all cuz my hose, or flow, i go where, ever i want, whenever i decide, my monte rides in the sky, but i gotta point all the tires to the side, drive 88 jump time and leave the street on fire, I, got youtube for eyes, myspace for brains, facebook for teeth, gowhere is inside…stop, switch its the soul, and i love it like i love a paira new soles…23 so i’m far from a teen but my flow’s lightning like palpatine”
- S-Preme 09.24.08
(You really had 2 be there cuz both limrik and S-Preme came through with multiple, ridiculous Jabbistyles just like those…)
“let me clarify, right here on jabbify, that im not a rapper.. just the guy who opens their wrappers; not ur typical college fella, i dont deal w/ the party scene, but still manage to make all the chicks hella scream, just like our unwrapped S-Preme - one day G5-ing to Beij-ing, performing in front of the bright beams and their ping pong teams, once just a couple dreams, now its all possible it seems”
- Sgt. Tibs 09.24.08
“ripping on a stranger is harder than it seems,
you fools aren’t significant you’re just bits on my screen,
in a true battle i’d take one look and see,
how ugly your mama face is and the rest comes easily,
s-preme for all i know you got a voice as high as a chipmunk,
limrik for all i know you get laid as much as a Thai monk,
all i know is you both lack the funk, and your shiz done stunk,
but i’m too respectful to leave you with a diss, so i’m gonna say goodnight and blow ya’ll a kiss”
- Brian 09.24.08
It’s on! Jabbistyle - Wednesday, October 15. 10PM CT.
Definitely the busiest weekend in awhile for me (and I’ll eventually have a post dedicated to a part of the reason why.. stay tuned) so allow me 2 catch up and post some loose ends from the weekend. We’ll start with some heavy heat from the Chi, with the video premiere of the summer smash “Universal Mind Control” by Common f/ Pharrell. As is the song, the video has a very futuristic, predominantly bright white setting and makes for quite the unique watch compared 2 ur everyday video. Hopin’ for more news on Common’s album soon; can’t wait! Down below, the first 2 trax are “Swagga Like Us” RMXs featuring a bevy of Chicago artists. I like Mikkey Halsted’s verse on the “Swagga Like Chi” version the most, but our boy S-Preme steals the show with his 3rd verse in “The Super Duper Song”. Try if you can catch every Chicago rapper he gives love 2 with his clever play on all of their names. Straight up ridiculous. And finally, we got some NEW Ludacris & T-Pain and R&B f/ Sterling Simms, Avant, Christina Milian, & Casely as well as Lupe Fiasco talking 2 MTV. Enjoy!
I’d also suggest the illVibes Love Lockdown RMX called “Love Rolex” for a nice change of pace on the original. Big ups 2 illVibes for the love as well.
2008 Mixtape Featuring RMXs of the early summer’s hits! *Tibs Fav.™
I’ll begin on a positive note - this really isn’t that Old School, but I know ya’ll slept on S-Preme over the summer and u really shouldn’t. For those who don’t have our GWHH contest winning track, “Fresher” yet.. get on that NOW! So much dopeness on that track from the lyrics, flow, all the way 2 the Mr. Music beat! And I know u’ll like that and u’ll be wanting more… DL S-Preme’s summer mixtape, The SickTape Vol. 1! He adds 2 hip hop instant classics like “Paris, Tokyo” and the “Everyone Nose RMX” and also showcases some hot original material. And you should get introduced, re-introduced, and refreshed on S-Preme because our Chicagoans will have the opportunity 2 see S-Preme perform many of these trax LIVE! That’s right, catch S-Preme tearin’ up the mic with all the info below! And you know it’s going 2 be emotional because S-Preme is on a heavy heart, like myself, as our beloved Cubbies got unceremoniously swept out of the playoffs 2nite and it’s going 2 be awhile until I’m fully recovered. …Ugh. And this couldn’t have happened at a worse time for me as the Cubs’ last game this season coincided with the first few moments of my birthday. So cheer me up by supporting the next rapper on the come-up outta the Chi - S-Preme… and maybe even drop a lil’ birthday greeting in the comments! Enjoy!
This is the best “I Get Money” RMX I’ve heard; S-Preme, the winner of GWHH’s ‘Return of the MC’ contest teams up with H. Bomb to bring you an incredible twist to the 50 Cent instrumental. The track brings a very entertaining lyrical critique on the state of our government. Enjoy!
