MORE Kanye from 808’s & Heartbreak! Someone definitely leaked out the album or most of it cuz I’m pretty sure Kanye only wanted “Amazin’” out 2day. So this is our last post on the CDQ trax from the upcoming album. Ya’ll are goin 2 buy it in stores anyway in less than 2 weeks! But anyway, the Lil’ Wayne collabo is my favorite of the two above and certainly better than their Graduation collaboration, “Barry Bonds”. I love the production on the track and their voices are enhanced and more powerful because of that. Idk about some of the lyrics by Weezy but it’s a track that I’ll be bumpin’ for sure. “Street Lights” is a lil’ more chill and more Kanye pourin’ out his emotions. Even though I might side with some of his fans out there that want another pure hip hop album from Mr. West, the direction of this album is something that I admire and above all, it’s good music. I love the emotion that Kanye displays throughout all the leaked tracks so far and his singing, autotune, and everything else hasn’t become annoying, rather it has only enhanced the emotion portrayed on the tracks. Consequently, Kanye West is connecting to a wider audience that can better relate to Kanye West, the person. 808’s & Heartbreak will be in stores November 24th!

This small update is taking yrs for me as I’m experiencing some comp probs that will hopefully not go beyond 2nite, but my current frustration can be eased with a simple listen 2 the feature track of the update - the collaboration of Young Jeezy & Nas! It’s a conscious song with both Nas AND Jeezy comin’ thru w/ some nice lyrics over a solid beat. I’m very indifferent on Jeezy - he annoys me moreso than he wows me, but he comes thru nicely on this one! Track should be on the upcoming album, The Recession. Below, a couple more trax f/ the likes of Talib Kweli & Akon, as well as a T.I. interview and a Method Man & Redman performance! Enjoy!

Sry for the late update 2day but it was a travel day for me and I was on the road all day. Regardless, better late than never, starting w/ another unreleased track from Andrew by Lupe Fiasco called “The Birds And The Bees”! Sweet lyrics of course and a Kanye West beat that is certainly reminiscent of his beats of old. Keeping it short and sweet, many cool updates below including NEW RMXs from CHI-Town’s Yung Berg & Ben One, as well as Kardinal Offishall. Finally, a couple video premieres for 2 great songs - The Game’s “My Life” f/ Lil’ Wayne & Gym Class Heroes’ “Cookie Jar” f/ The Dream and some video interviews w/ T.I. & Redman! Enjoy!

Some serious heat in this post with a handful of sweet trax, starting with 2 of the game’s heavyweights collaborating (no pun intended) - The Game & Lil’ Wayne! Normally I’m ‘ehhh’ on both these rappers but they came 2gether for a slower, more conscious track for this one. Wayne is a lil’ annoying on the chorus, but The Game’s verses are all on point and were a fresh reminder of why I bumped The Documentary so much. Down below, Redman comes through with a sweet freestyle over Jay-Z’s “Show Me What Ya Got” and Young Chris & Wale collaborate for a real fresh tune as well. The one thing they have in common, besides being a *Tibs Fav.™, is references to one of my favorite movies - Beverly Hills Cop! Haha, not everyday u see one track with a reference 2 the Eddie Murphy film, let alone 2. And there are also some real dope name-drops with The Rock in the Young Chris / Wale collabo and CP3, aka Chris Paul, in The Game / Lil’ Wayne collabo. Finally, I’m really feelin’ “Perfect Gentleman” by Avant f/ Alfamega, which has a vibe similar 2 the Avant / Lloyd Banks collabo “Exclusive” that I really liked. The 2008 Rock The Bells tour kicked off in Chicago this past Saturday on July 19th with a bevy of artists taking stage at the First Midwest Bank Ampitheatre. Artists and legends like Kidz In The Hall, Jay Electronica, Dead Prez, Immortal Technique, Rakim, De La Soul, Method Man & Redman, and Mos Def, The Pharcyde, Nas, and A Tribe Called Quest provided a concert of live, raw hip hop lasting nearly half a day! All the artists brought their own style and entertainment to the stage so there was never really a time to drift off and take a break. Some notable highlights and characteristics from the performances were the passion and clarity of the messages from Immortal Technique, the high-octane energy Method Man & Redman came with to ignite the crowd to another level (even stage-diving), Mos Def’s incredibly slick acapellas, Nas’ entire set, especially his “One Mic” finale, & finally the best moment for me - The Pharcyde performing one of my all-time favorite jams “Runnin’”, enhanced by the live energy by all four MCs and the live drums and instruments. One critique of ours was that Nas should have closed the concert because his buzz is at the highest with his recent release of Untitled and the hip hop legend had the crowd in the biggest frenzy of the night. No disrespect to A Tribe Called Quest, who were great in their own right as well, but we noticed the crowd was not as into them as they were with Nas. Again, “One Mic” was an excellent closing song to Nas’ set and would have been a perfect cap off for the entire day of real hip hop performances. We would have also liked to see artists like Dead Prez and Kidz In The Hall later on in the bill as the crowd was still filing in well into the early evening. We had a great time chillin’ with our friends, GWHH ‘Return Of The MC’ Contest winner S-Preme, and even some of the artists who were in and out of the SanDisk VIP lounge!
