Another quick update for ya starting with the supposed, official video from the freestyle in Singapore called “Pinocchio Story” that appears as a hidden track on Kanye West’s 808’s & Heartbreak. Some strong visuals in that one along with the video premiere for a song that keeps growing on me, “Arab Money” by Busta Rhymes f/ Ron Browz. And there’s a couple trax for ya ears as well with a NEW song from Q-Tip and Naledge (Of Kidz In The Hall) cleverly spittin’ a freestyle over Q-Tip’s “Move”. Big ups to the Bulls references in that freestyle, which got me thinkin’… why didn’t I post the ridiculous Derrick Rose highlights over Andre Miller yesterday? I mean, I was watchin’ it all day Monday and still watchin’ it 2day… why not share to you guys as well? That video is below also. Crazy. Enjoy!
Definitely the busiest weekend in awhile for me (and I’ll eventually have a post dedicated to a part of the reason why.. stay tuned) so allow me 2 catch up and post some loose ends from the weekend. We’ll start with some heavy heat from the Chi, with the video premiere of the summer smash “Universal Mind Control” by Common f/ Pharrell. As is the song, the video has a very futuristic, predominantly bright white setting and makes for quite the unique watch compared 2 ur everyday video. Hopin’ for more news on Common’s album soon; can’t wait! Down below, the first 2 trax are “Swagga Like Us” RMXs featuring a bevy of Chicago artists. I like Mikkey Halsted’s verse on the “Swagga Like Chi” version the most, but our boy S-Preme steals the show with his 3rd verse in “The Super Duper Song”. Try if you can catch every Chicago rapper he gives love 2 with his clever play on all of their names. Straight up ridiculous. And finally, we got some NEW Ludacris & T-Pain and R&B f/ Sterling Simms, Avant, Christina Milian, & Casely as well as Lupe Fiasco talking 2 MTV. Enjoy!
I’d also suggest the illVibes Love Lockdown RMX called “Love Rolex” for a nice change of pace on the original. Big ups 2 illVibes for the love as well.
Producer: Kanye West? - FULL, CDQ?, 1st single off upcoming album, 808’s & Heartbreak *Tibs Fav.™

‘Ye just released the CDQ version on his blog and on 1st listen… I think I’m feelin’ the live performance more. There’s times where Kanye doesn’t hit the notes right.. but anyway, DL it now! (Extended review 2 come..)
Updated Extended Review:
“Love Lockdown” delivers what all Kanye West fans should expect - a fresh, boundary-pushing 1st single, a la “Stronger” last year, in terms of impact. Production wise, there are elements in “Love Lockdown” that I feel have not been heard like this before, which really makes the song unique. The ominous “dum dum dum, dum” bass line 2 begin and end the track really sets the mood for the song and it is simple, yet effective throughout. Add in the high-pitched clicks and bangs of the bongos and other percussion instruments in the chorus and it is a very well-produced track that changes throughout its entirety and especially toward the end. Lyrically, Kanye is on point about describing his internal struggles with love and sings them with emotion. Gotta give him credit as the passion is certainly on paper and on the mic, yet I do feel that the quality of his singing is really exposed on this track, specifically in the chorus. Right when he starts, “So keep your love lockdown..”, the quality of his voice really plummets, especially when he hits the “love lockdown”. I think he had a desired effect in mind, but it didn’t really work for me as I feel it was not executed to its fullest. As suggested by “Non” in Jabbify (get chatting people! :D), the chorus could really be cleaned up (the main reason why I like the LIVE version better than the studio), which caused Max G. to think that this was not even the CDQ version when I talked to him. And who knows? Maybe it is a rough version. Non also suggested that someone else jump on the chorus and I will throw out a name who I think would kill this - John Legend! Yes, he is one of my favorites, but this is the type of beat, with piano on the chorus as well, that his soulful voice would enhance. Not to mention the topic of love as well; a topic that is certainly not a stranger to the R&B genre that John Legend represents. Overall, I like the track, but it could definitely be better and I do not think it will ever come close to my top ten Kanye West songs. I really respect that Kanye is branching out and growing as an artist - trying out new styles and production, but this track is not all the way there for me. I wish he rapped - his two best musical strengths are production and rapping. Singing is a distant 3rd. It will certainly blow up on the radio, but I really hope that the rest of the album does not have this much autotune. Check out my editorial from earlier this week for more thoughts on that!
I’ll put up some more content and update it here within the hour.. keep it locked! I’ll actually need some more time on that
Here it is (bout 10PM CT)… NEW Trax-N-Vids.. just peep them below (especially the comic book sayings in the Luda premiere.. my favorite funny one is @ 4:12..). Also… it’s Naledge’s birthday 2day (hence the track) and our M.I.A. 3rd blogger, gowhere?’s bday 2day as well! Happy bday all around! Enjoy!
FULL, CDQ, Track off upcomingmixtape, Can’t Stop Me*Tibs Fav.™
Shouts 2 Kev & Andrew for sendin’ thru the latest from our boy from Cleveland - Chip Tha Ripper w/ some excellent co-stars in Naledge, Mickey Factz, & Mic Terror! It’s a solid track that’ll be on Chip’s upcoming mixtape, which should be out any moment now. Def feelin’ Mickey’s & Naledge’s verses the most and many of u true hip hop heads will enjoy this track as well. Down below a few NEW trax for ya ears by Prodigy of Mobb Deep, One Chance, Frankie J, & a Chris Brown snippet that has some potential there. Enjoy!
Back from work and here w/ a large update featuring a boatload of trax-n-vids! The feature track coming from the Mountain Dew-led campaign via Green Label Sound, who will be releasing trax from up and comers like The Cool Kids exclusively on their website for free. More artists will soon be announced and there will also be a coinciding promotional tour featuring the artists. The project sounds very interesting w/ The Cool Kids comin’ thru w/ another solid banger, featuring some clever wordplay! A few notes on the updates below… Naledge & Lupe each had their own version of “Mean & Vicious” and I think the rare mixtape trax have been molded 2gether into 1 track, which u can DL below! Lupe’s 2nd verse remains one of my all-time favorites, so if u don’t yet have “Mean & Vicious”, u GOT 2 DL the version below! A few more thoughts, not 100 pct. positive that’s indeed Bobby V and/or Timbaland on the snippet at the bottom of the update, but its credited 2 them, so we’ll go w/ it, and finally check out the funny video trailer from our man Chip Tha Ripper, promoting his NEW mixtape coming soon and I get ya caught up on The Game Vs. Bow Wow…. in Madden, haha! (Big ups 2 BOBO, Kev, & Paul S. for the e-mails… check out the flyer at the bottom for a casting call if ur an UPCOMING MC!) Enjoy!
The hip hop heads should already be familiar with the ATL’s Stat Quo, who was a rapper I first heard a few yrs ago and liked everything he was droppin. He is still with Shady/Aftermath from what I heard, but his debut album, Statlanta, has been constantly delayed and while it has apparently been completed for awhile, the label has yet 2 release it. The song above is Stat telling that story, along with other stories about his journey in the industry, Proof’s death, & more! Some pretty heartfelt lyrics attracted me right away on the 1st listen and reminded me why I liked Stat Quo in the first place. So if ur a big hip hop head, def give Stat a chance and DL 2day’s feature track above! Below, plenty more hip hop and R&B.. some thoughts on the trax below… Twista kills “The Business RMX”, Songz kills the hook on “Love For Money”, & I’m tryin’ 2 love Chris Brown’s “Captive”, but its slightly disturbing me that the song is in fact written in a girl’s perspective (a demo for the Pussycat Dolls… I can see Nicole S. on that Polow beat makin’ the radio for sure…). There’s also a couple videos featuring more from hip hop with Kidz In The Hall & Skillz! Enjoy!
FULL, Limited DJ, RMX over Pete Rock & C.L. Smooth’s “T.R.O.Y.” *Tibs Fav.™
Thx 2 our aff. 2dopeboyz (ironic, huh?) for the above track and pic as Lupe, Wale, & Kardinal Offishall rhyme over the classic Pete Rock & C.L. Smooth “T.R.O.Y. (They Reminisce Over You)”! Lupe’s verse has been out for over a year already - it was featured on the 2007 mixtape, Sneakerboxx/The Laces Below, but it is mashed into a full song w/ Wale’s and Offishall’s verses (not sure if they are recycled also..)! One of my favorite all-time beats and the rappers don’t disappoint… MUST-DL above! Down below, some more hip hop featuring Yung Berg, Naledge (Of Kidz In The Hall), Lil’ Wayne, & MORE! Enjoy!
Jazmine Sullivan is an R&B singer and a RMX f/ mega stars T.I. & Missy Elliott has surfaced for her song “Need You Bad”. I’m not big on Missy at all, but this song is a nice one that touches a chord w/ me with Jazmine’s nice voice and T.I.’s slow flow, yet solid lyrics (and slow flow can be good as u should kno..) More R&B that deals w/ boys & girls can be found below, including a nice lil’ slow jam from Ne-Yo, a solid new-age R&B track by Mario Winans and of course, some hip hop w/ Naledge showin’ his intelligence in a freestyle. Of course there’s more trax below that u may like, along w/ some video interviews w/ Lil’ Wayne, LL Cool J, a Snoop Dogg featured video, and behind the scenes w/ Donnie Klang & Diddy (u kno.. if MTB is not enough of an inside look into their lives, haha!) Enjoy!
