Common Talks Universal Mind Control

IN STORES DECEMBER 9TH!

Here’s a quick update for ya ears starting with a video of Common on top of a rooftop (hah, he did this for Finding Forever also) describing his favorite trax off the upcoming album, Universal Mind Control, which hits stores next week! Definitely an interesting view for hardcore Common fans lookin’ to get some direct insight from the artist himself about the upcoming album. Down below is a couple trax (seen @ Sean’s) that take a couple instrumentals from Lupe Fiasco’s The Cool. The first is Clipse goin’ over “Dumb It Down” and the latter is an artist named Novel hooking up with Joell Ortiz to do their version of “Fighters”. Both are real solid versions that I think you’d enjoy. Finally, you got your lil’ batch of videos featuring the likes of Consequence, Joe Budden, & upcoming G.O.O.D. Music artist, Big Sean. Enjoy!

Kanye West “Love Lockdown” LIVE @ Jimmy Kimmel

***UPDATE: Our buddies over @ OG Hip Hop came thru with a collection of more extensive thoughts and coverage of Kanye West’s listening party. CLICK HERE!

Above is another passionate, live performance from the superstar Kanye West! Just before the 2:30 mark and the end chorus are the two highlights of the performance… with the lowlight the constant screen time of the same teary-eyed girl.. ugh. Anyway, the performance was a sweet one which came after Kanye hosted the first listening party for 808’s & Heartbreak. The listening party featured forty nude girls, hahaha, and of course the first exposure of the entire album to a select audience. The web has started discussing it here and here and truthfully, I’m warming up to the direction of Kanye’s 808’s & Heartbreak, even though it looks like he’ll be doing more singing than rapping. Time will tell. Below, check out a bunch of NEW trax and video premieres featuring a nice one from The Cool Kids, Busta Rhymes, Talib Kweli, Trey Songz brilliantly covering another hit w/ Ryan Leslie’s “Addiction” being the culprit this time, Brandy, Chris Brown, Keri Hilson, & MORE! post Kidd Russell “Dear Shooter” f/ Jaswel Race VIDEO - MORE

October 14th, 2008

Kidd Russell “Dear Shooter” f/ Jaswel Race

Kidd Russell MySpace

We’re leadin’ off with a real nice video/song from another one of Chicago’s fastest rising stars, Kidd Russell. Kidd Russell has opened for the likes of Common, The Roots, Nappy Roots, and GLC and with “Dear Shooter” is well on his way to making his mark in Chicago hip hop. The song is a deep one that was inspired by the Virginia Tech school shootings and was ironically recorded on the same day of the Northern Illinois school shootings in the winter of this year. The lyrics touch on gun violence and the video has been featured across the web, even on a Barack Obama site. Finally, Kidd says the song is like a cross between 2Pac’s “Dear Mama” & Eminem’s “Stan”, which I feel is an accurate description after analyzing the verses. Peep for yourself with the video above!

Down below, your daily batch of NEW trax-n-vids, starting w/ a raw hip hop track from Joe Budden and friends that goes nearly 7 minutes with words flyin’ all over the place. Clear and meaningful verses are abound so all the hip hop fans will surely love what Joe Budden & Co. have 2 offer in “Slaughterhouse”. Akon also comes thru w/ 3 more trax - a nice mid-tempo ballad w/ Keyshia Cole, the RMX 2 “I Got Paid” w/ Young Jeezy added on it (could grow on me), and a nice club-banger that adores the ladies with “Beautiful”. Also, Lil’ Flip comes thru w/ a new track and Fab adds a verse 2 “Good Lovin’”, which makes for a nice complete track as well. Finally, a bunch of video premieres below featuring Q-Tip, Lil’ Wayne, Frankie J, & MORE! Enjoy!
