John Legend Interview & Rehearsal Of “If You’re Out There”
NEW john Legend “If You’re Out There” is a MUST-DL for any fan of music and even any follower of the political campaigns for this year’s election. JL showcases that one of a kind powerful, soulful voice, while also sending a ringing message to 2day’s generation. The description from his Barack Obama page concisely sums up the goal of the track perfectly,
“A call-to-action and evocation of human potential, “If You’re Out There” reflects the themes of hope and change, responsibility and leadership, and commitment to a better tomorrow expressed in the principles of Barack Obama and the hearts of the American people.”
John Legend performed the song for the first time @ last nite’s opening for the Democratic National Convention in Denver and in addition 2 DLing the track above, peep the interview and rehearsal of John Legend as he talks in detail about the track - a very interesting 2 and a half minute watch. “Can’t keep runnin’ awaaaayyaaayyy…”
Aite, I know this installment of Old School Sundays may not be the rare track the hip hop fans were expecting, but I believe there 2day’s listeners of the new generation of hip hop have not heard of this song - a song that is truly classic! In 1995, the late J. Dilla blessed the 4 MCs from the West Coast called The Pharcyde with an incredible beat that the members killed with a meaningful story, message, and addictive chorus! This is really a track that I put on every now and then still 2day and was inspired 2 post this not only because I’m sure people have not heard this great track, but also because one of my favorite shows, Entourage, featured the track at the end credits of an episode that I re-watched sometime recently. Anyway, all hip hop fans will love this track and even the casual fans will be sure 2 enjoy it. So if u don’t have it in ur collection already, it’s a MUST-DL above! Enjoy!
“It’s Ninteen Ninety-Five..! / And now that I’m older / stress weighs on my shoulders / heavy as boulders / but I told ya’ll / until the day that I die, I still / will be a soldier / that’s all I told ya / and that’s all I showed ya / and all this calamity is rippin’ my sanity / Can it be I’m a celbriityyy?”
- The Pharcyde “Runnin’” (beg. of 3rd verse that always gets me..!)
Here’s a few good hip hop trax for ya ears. The story behind the J. Dilla / Kanye collabo is interesting and here’s Kanye’s explanation straight from his blog.
“Never heard this song till now….I made this beat in 2001, of course right after Takeover…we were havin’ problems clearing the Doors sample so I made this version originally 4 Big Bro Hov.” - Kanye West
Ya’ll should check out the final product above and the hip hop trax below f/ The Roots and Pharoahe Monch. I also threw up a video premiere featuring Colby O’ Donis and Akon and u can click the links below 2 take a look at some news articles below pertaining the upcoming albums and projects for Common & Alicia Keys! Enjoy!

Whoo, Chris Brown comes thru with another sweet video for his latest single “Forever”, which will be on the Exclusive: Forever Edition re-release of his 2007 album due out June 3rd! I was in love w/ this track since the first listen and it’s definitely going 2 blow up and become an early summer anthem for 2008. The video above should definitely help the cause as CB pulls out some more of his usual smooth dance moves amidst a bevy of effects (the fountain one was real cool!). Below, check out some LIVE videos featuring Common & Alicia Keys as well as a Gnarls Barkley premiere! (Damn, Letterman is getting some good music lately, haha!) Enjoy!
A TON of Tibs Favs for 2day.. check out 2 new trax from Blu of Blu & Exile! I especially love the creativity of “MyBoyBlu” featuring snippets relating 2 the character Blue from the movie Old School (The last snippet 2 close the song is well-placed and hilarious!) “CityOfLos(t)Angel(e)s” is another sweet track that is lyrically awesome. Below, you can check out new trax from A Tribe Called Quest frontman Q-Tip, the FULL version of the 2007 summer single by Really Doe & Jennifer Hudson, a remix by 112 f/ T.I., and more hot trax featuring One Chance & Akon!
