Nabil Elderkin talks 'Coldest Winter' video
Director of the Kanye West "Coldest Winter" video, Nabil Elderkin, briefly opened up to MTV to discuss the video that has generated quite a buzz since its premiere earlier this week. It was interesting to hear Elderkin speak about how him and Kanye decided not to put him in the video for "Coldest Winter" and take him out of the video for "Paranoid". He elaborates, per MTV's news story:
I think he's [Kanye] in that place in his life where right now he just wants to make art.""Sometimes I don't want to get too literal with videos, like, 'This is what this is suppose to mean, and that's what that is suppose to mean,' " he [Nabil] said. "I wanted to leave it open to interpretation. I want people to get whatever they want out of it."
A couple powerful and informative statements from Elderkin above and quite frankly, I love when artists and directors take that open-ended interpretive approach. In case you missed it, watch the "Coldest Winter" video premiere here.
