"R.O.T.C. (Right On Time Conscience) is a song that really caught my attention from Kendrick Lamar and BJ The Chicago Kid, and now the artistic visual can be seen for it above. The song is a reflective record that plagued the mind of rapper Kendrick Lamar, who recorded his jumbled thoughts in the wee hours of the morning as he states on the record. His fast paced raps follow a chilling sample that talks about the human race that sets the mood, in addition to the dark production. Kendrick's extra long verse lets us in on his personal mind state in the rap game, aided by powerful singular words that appear in the moving sky of the video. I love how Lamar ends the verse, which then transitions into BJ The Chicago Kid's familiar and fitting chorus. Definitely an artistic video to check out and the song of which you can peep on Kendrick Lamar's new Overly Dedicated project, available now.
Not too long ago the good people at PHLI held a screening of the 2010 BET Hip Hop Awards that was a well-attended affair featuring performances from some of Chicago's underground. The video above captures the event as a whole and of course, a little bit of the Chicago cypher that broke out in honor of the awards. I spied Real T@lk(with a hilarious 40-Year-Old Virgin reference), Twone Gabz, Big Homie D.O.E., YP, MarVo, and more. Speaking of PHLI, its owner Dave Jeff returns to the mic on a new song "Love" f/ DJ Broadway Streets. The trailer for that can also be seen below and features all speaking by Leon Rogers which acts as a prelude to the song that will be comin' up shortly. Also featured below are new videos featuring Lil' Jon, DJ Premier, and a couple of bonus links with Lloyd Banks and Vado. Enjoy!
