Features 15 NEW Tracks!
So I met this young, ambitious, 19 year-old cat down by the dock area after I interviewed Lil B last year. His name was Calez. The kid had the hustler's spirit. He told me he spit. After bumping his first mixtape Is Calez Famous Yet? I believed him. Was even the first to post him. Now Calez is backed by fellow tastemakers 2DopeBoyz and Ruby Hornet with his first album called Kid With Raps. Powering himself with his own original production along with an assist from Flosstradamus the whole project knocks.
On "Play Start", Calez raps about dreams and also his frustrations about not being able to rock too many shows because he's underage.
"This is what I want to play when I wake, scratching my retarded fro. Dream of people screaming for me that I hardly know... hardly getting my cardio, hard to get in this party to perform, cuz at norm I always had to get carded, joe."
Lyrically, Calez is also ahead of the curve throughout Kid With Raps. He definitely doesn't sound like a kid to me. He sounds more like a young cat that's been around hip-hop for a minute. Is he a bit over-influenced like many up and coming Chi emcees? Perhaps, but at least his influences are greats like Kanye West, Pharrell, and A Tribe Called Quest. This album screams put me on. His interlude does serve as a reminder that him and his crew aren't just a talented crew, but they're also some very playful young dudes. Tracks like "Plenty of Love," "Intermission," and "Love Text" featuring his 2008ighties comrade Ju Malone, who also produced the groove, exhibit Calez versatility as an artist. Overall this project is a groove I tell you. Hit the download button and also peep his video for "Intermission".
