It's always good conversing with artists. Especially, when they're bigger fans of the music than you are. Enter Duke professor and Grammy Award-winning producer 9th Wonder. I caught up with the passionate beatmaker while he was in town for the premiere of his LRG-based hip-hop documentary. He's been touring all over for his new film. There is a lot of good content throughout the piece. I recommend you checking that out. He also had a show at Reggie's. Afterwards, he spoke to me about Little Brother, working in higher academia, stardom versus artistry, and "the underdog." Wonderful dialogue. Go peep.
I'll leave you guys with a dope quote he had on artists who think success in the rap game come easy.
"Everybody was an underdog. Drake was an underdog. 50 was an underdog. Nobody was born rapping, bruh. Everybody started from nothing. So you just gotta work hard. You can't depend on the next man to give you a handout. That's the problem with cats coming out of cities and states expecting another man to just open the door for you and give you. No! You gotta work for yours, know what I'm saying? And don't fault another man for you not making it. That's wack."
