A label called TufAmerica is suing Kanye West over the sample usage of Eddie Bo's “Hook & Sling” on two songs off of his 2010 album, "Who Will Survive In America” and "Lost in The World." The suit recognizes that Roc-a-Fella Records and Universal Music Group spent $62,500 to clear the sample but didn't "enter into written license agreements that accounted for their multiple other uses” of "Hook & Sling".
First off, damn. Those sample clearances aren't cheap. Second, I think this has the making of some sort of settlement due to the last fact above. And third, this story just made me dust off my MBDTF Samples. Some great tunes for any time.
