Chicago Blackhawks 2013 Stanley Cup Champions
How else could you end a season that magically began with a historic, record-setting 24 game unbeaten streak? In magical fashion, of course!
The Chicago Blackhawks scored two goals in 17 seconds, the first coming with 1:16 remaining, and turning a 1-2 deficit into a 3-2 Stanley Cup clinching victory. As admittedly more of a casual fan than a die hard, I still noticed one thing that the streak of 24 (unbeaten in regulation) taught us for scenarios like the one the Hawks were facing with less than 2 minutes left...
Less than a minute after that tweet, the Blackhawks tied the game...
Then, on the ensuing faceoff 17 seconds later...
The rest, as they say, is history. Like their United Center roommates, the Chicago Bulls, have done this season, the Blackhawks exhibited great heart, Phil and were a true representation of a city that, unlike the Bulls ('til next June ;D), reached the ultimate triumph tonight. That's why, and I can't stress this enough for you readers outside of Chicago, this city is so proud of these Chicago Blackhawks.
I ventured out with my friends to the chaos on Clark St. outside Wrigley Field to experience the rare moment of your hometown's sports team winning the championship. We saw tree branches looted, steel barracades passed along like a crowd surfer, and eventually the Chicago police on horseback ending the 6 block celebration. In addition to some amazing aerial images up above by the local news, I tapped into Instagram and Vine to try and do the scene justice. I did, but didn't.
And with that, a few more lasting GIFs of the Blackhawks' unity. At least until we're downtown Wednesday Friday morning, united as one!
Oh, and here's Jonathan Toews moonwalking on the TD Garden ice.
