PAINTyRAiD “Beba (ProbCause RMX)”

Sgt. Tibs posted May 18, 2012

Chicago emcee ProbCause always comes with the unique remixes and this new one above is no different as he puts down a distinct, eclectic flow on PAINTyRAiD’s “Beba”. The original matches his hip hop/dubstep fusion and Prob makes this one a jam for fans of both genres to get hyped to. And I can imagine this one having even more energy performed live. Give it a listen above – another *Tibs Fav.™ for this Friday! And also for this Friday, how about a RANDOM GIF SMASH! on the heels of last night’s epic Community season finale, hah!

Cocaine 80s “Queen To Be”

Sgt. Tibs posted May 18, 2012

We’re always welcoming of new Cocaine 80s – the No I.D.-led collective featuring Common & Fauntleroy. No Common on the vocals here, but Fauntleroy does the heavy lifting by both singing and rapping. In fact, he flat out kills it. His “queeeeeen to be” chorus is an instant attention-grabber and delivered infectiously. Plus, his fast rap flow is both easy to follow and one to ride with. Especially since he’s not known for that, I was impressed. The entire sound and mood of the production and vocals together are simply on point and up above lies an easy *Tibs Fav.™ with all-caps potential as I bump this one even more. Download above!

Sgt. Tibs posted May 18, 2012

It’s about to be a Cruel Summer ya’ll! Kanye West announces the short film, Cruel Summer, set to premiere May 23 at Cannes. The project is being described as part short film, part art installation across a 7-screen experience. It will be a creation of West’s recently-formed fashion + art collective DONDA, and will also star Aziz Ansari and Kid Cudi. Tickets can be bought on Yeezy’s website here. In addition, according to Elliott Wilson, Cruel Summer will serve as the title to the upcoming G.O.O.D. Music album. So… who wants to go to Cannes with me?

David Banner “Amazing” f/ Chris Brown [Music Video]

Sgt. Tibs posted May 17, 2012

For his video for “Amazing”, David Banner goes the route of some of those Guinness commercials by pasting his and featured guest Chris Brown‘s heads on some crude 2 dimensional figures. Somethin’ different for sure off the upcoming Sex, Drugs, & Video Games, dropping for free next week, May 22nd.

Sean Kingston “Back 2 Life (Live It Up)” f/ T.I.

Sgt. Tibs posted May 17, 2012

Today Sean Kingston premiered his comeback single “Back 2 Life (Live It Up)” and right off the bat, you’ll notice a familiar sample of Soul II Soul’s “Back To Life”. Consequently, this single is already winning. On top of the uptempo flavor, Kingston actually sings and is inspired by his brush with death in that jet skiing accident almost a year ago. T.I. is a natural fitting feature as he has dealt with personal tragedy in the form of the death of his best friend. His verse is along the same lines and delivered with a fast-paced, quality flow. I like where this is coming from and think it will catch on with me personally as well as the masses. Listen for yourself above!

How has the Chicago music scene changed recently? [Video]

Sgt. Tibs posted May 17, 2012

We at Gowhere Hip Hop are about growing together as one. A chief goal of our company is to promote talented up and coming artists to our wide, national and international audience. And as that is inclusive of artists and talent from anywhere, we see that just in our hometown of Chicago, there are countless amounts of people of different styles, cultures, and perspectives that deserve to be heard. As we continue to grow with GWHH, and as a Chicago music scene overall, we wanted to also take a step back and reflect about how the scene has changed immensely in just the past few years – and communicate that to you all, whether you can experience this first hand in the Chi or looking from the outside in. With this in mind, we linked up earlier this month with Briahna Gatlin & Swank PR at Gowhere Hip Hop Headquarters for a client/media junket. Swank PR represents a variety of artists, VIPs, industry professionals, and tastemakers in Chicago, and just in their clientele alone, they are a big presence in the city. While not everyone in the scene is directly speaking above, the people that were in the office that day and featured in the video above provide a vast perspective and sound representation of much of the city. So in addition to growing our own relationships with one another and connecting people for the first time, we also decided to spread some awareness, reflection, and knowledge on the Chicago music scene with this video.

Watch and hear from Chicago artists, industry professionals, tastemakers, and our own members of #TeamGowhere about how the Chicago music scene has changed, the unity that has developed, and how the momentum is only going to keep building as we all continue to unite and grow. In just the last few years, a Chicago music scene that has long been segregated and known for its ‘hater’ reputation has made great strides in shedding that stigma and becoming more unified. There is a powerful movement bubbling here and we’re in the midst of an exciting journey of Chicago’s evolving music scene becoming the next powerhouse city of the music industry!

“Chicago is one city. We shall work as one people for our common good and our common goals.”
