TIBS UPDATE: "Unnecessary" earns the longest time period between the tagged and untagged releases, maybe ever. We've waited since May 14th, but the CDQ/NO TAGS version is now up for download above (shouts 2 CSHH). Relive Kuda's dope writeup from the time below and of course, get this heater in your iTunes above!
05.14.12: Last week, I had the privilege of being a part of one of the better shows I've seen in a long time as Childish Gambino performed one helluva show right here in Chicago. To think that his performance wasn't the best part of my night is still a little crazy to me. After his show, we caught up with Gambino at The Green Mill just acting as normal as one could and when the crowd wasn't so persistent on trying to get an autograph from Mr. Glover, Sgt. Tibs, Palita, and I were able to squeeze in our chance in with the humble artist and exchange a few promising words. Besides Tibs' shirt, which he was floored over in laughter, and Palita's drink she bought him, I took a step back to realize I was talking with easily one of my favorite artists in the game today. Nevertheless, I thought my Gambino meter couldn't get any higher than it previously was, but after that exhilarating night, it has! With all that being said, lets just say Gambino has been heavily played in my rotation this past week and this new track couldn't have come at a better time. Donald gave the green light over to Funkmaster Flex earlier tonight to drop his latest track "Unnecessary", featuring Schoolboy Q. Not only is "Unnecessary" rumored to be the first official song coming off his upcoming mixtape, but it is one of the hardest songs Gambino has gone over lately. Expect your typical humorous metaphors and crazy flow to be balancing on the line of his nerdy cultural "SWAG" life all over a hard hittin beat. Oh yea, just as expected, Q holds his verse down as well. Enough already though, make sure no one around you is sleeping and turn your speakers up, Gambino is his name yo! Flex bombs for now.
